My new baby is 40 days out of pouch. Yesterday was his first time that his parents Willow and Wiccan let him come out off the fleece pouch to climb about on his own. He is getting stuck on everything. His feet are sticking like Velcro to anything he climbs on including me. He climbed up my chin and over my face and oh the fun I had trying to extract those needle tip nails from my lip. Because he is just learning to cruise around on his own I don't want to hinder his hanging on ability but those nails seem to be hindering him a bit. Is it too early to carefully snip the tips off? I don't want him to fall while he is learning. Any advice?

I clip as soon as they start sticking to things. Usually around 2 weeks.

If the joey is sticking to everything then go ahead and just snip the tips.

Better to snip the tips than have him get stuck and be left out of the pouch or hurt himself.

Ohhh, I remember when I met my boys for the first time - they hadn't had the first nip yet, and they just butchered my arms! The breeder cut them for me before they came home, but they hadn't been done yet that first time and it was torture!
Of course, now my monsters have decided that nail trimming is akin to torture so I have that to deal with! crazy

FYI. Though much bloodshed and trial and error I have discovered something that works well and I seem to come out unscathed each time. Rather than taking them out of their fleece pouch and attempting to wrap them in fleece and then struggling to keep track of the face of those wiggling little boogers as I know what's coming if that face makes it out of the fleece. I now do this which is much easier for them and me. I leave them in their pouch. I give them a yogurt drop. I take one little hand or hind leg and extend it to just above the bag opening. I pinch the top of the bag shut, spread the little hand out on my finger tip and viola. Snippity snip it is done. I have to do this for Willow and Wiccan but for Taeo their Joey I can just hold him because since I've had the opportunity to handle him since birth he doesn't bite like mom and dad.

I have worked on several methods. first holding in fleece or with bonded gliders just holding. with bonded gliders holding works ok. but most of our gliders make nail cutting difficult. so we got a netting bag. but them in bag and cut, but this means nails get out together in one netting hole and glider hard to stop from moving.

so my newest attempt (going to try next time off of work) is to cut a small hole in a small bonding bag we made. put glider in bag, maybe let him sleep, then get a leg out of the small hole. Hopefully we can hold them well enough to have a good view of nails and cutting point.
and wont have that netting getting in the way, and a dark pouch may relax them more. here hoping, thats all I got, hope smile

I tried the cutting a little hole in fleece for the leg to poke through but since fleece is stretchy the little boogers surprised me and shortly after I got their first foot out that cute little face followed. With face came teeth. No success for me on that one. Good luck to you though. It might work if they are sleepy enough. After the first snip mine are immediately awake. I'm jealous of videos I've seen where a glider just sits there eating a treat with one hand while the other hand is calmly stretched out getting a manicure. Maybe if you sewed around the hole like when making a button hole. That might take away the stretchy. Good luck. Keep me in the loop.

When you used the netting bag do they bite you through the net because they can see you?

Many people have success giving them a favorite treat to hold/eat while trimming nails which seems to work quite well.
