I hope I have this going to the right forum.

Ok so my new little girl, Smores, we've only had since Friday so I'm still learning her behaviors. When my husband and I took her out for play time last night she explored around a bit than came up to my husband. Things were going good with playtime bonding until she found the rubber band he had on his wrist. She wanted to chew on it, very badly and bit his wrist in the process. He'd gently nudge her from his wrist area, but she kept coming back for it and he would get bit. He pulled his sleeve down over the rubber band and she tried to get inside his shirt. After this happened a few times he removed it. She still kept coming back to his wrist and would bit even though it was gone. Now I assume his wrist still smelled like rubber so she kept trying. My question is, has anyone else had this happen? Do they just like the smell, or could it be because it was such a new smell? It was the only thing she could focus on and we ended up ending playtime because she wouldn't stop trying to bit him. We've made a mental note to not wear rubber bands anymore. smile

I'll be completely honest & tell you I've had mine fixate on something on or about me before. Sometimes It has been a freckle or hair they just felt must be taken care of or something, or sometimes my ear lobes must just look yummy a particular night.

It can be very frustrating, but working through it & ending in a way that leaves her with a positive impression of your time together goes a long way, nibbles & bites notwithstanding.

Yes, I would say you have chosen your forum wisely.

Be thankful it's a rubber band that you can remove and take away. When we first got our two they did not care for our achilles tendons at all. Didn't matter who's they were the little suckers were coming to chomp them. If we were sitting cross legged in the tent or even sitting on the couch with legs dangling they would find you. Thankfully after they got to know us they both gave up that habit. I made little tiny toys that had beads, bells and rings that would dangle and make noise to distract them. When they were using us as chew toys we would jingle one of those and the distraction worked every time. When our pair had their first little Joey we used them as teething toys for when he first started tasting us with his new little teeth. Again worked like a charm. Now none of them bite. All are friendly and have no fear of our hands. Hang in there. Yours likely didn't like the smell. Even I hate the smell of a rubber band.

Thank you for your responses. Your stories Hutch and ilovemyweeones are too funny. I literally laughed when I read your posts. I'm sure at the time though it may have been a bit annoying, you want to bond and they get entranced with something on your body. I'm learning more and more at just how unique these little creatures can be. All I can do is laugh at their little qwerks and love every bit of it. I guess we are lucky as to have her fixate on something that at least is removable.

Well, if you ask Arthur, my earlobes should be removable, hehehe.

It will probably happen again, but as long as you stay calm & end the night well, you'll both learn to love your (hopefully bite free) time together.

PS: Glad to make you laugh at the antics of my fur balls :D They're great for that!

Hutch, my husband and I liked the earlobe story, all though I'm sure your ears didn't appreciate all that nibbling.

We do try and end playtime in a good way, so they don't "know" that biting is not why it's over. I figure it's kinda goes with how to act if you get bit, if you jerk away it teaches them that biting gets your hand away, getting put back into the cage after biting may support the same idea.We try and end with a yoggie or snack with some petting once they are in their cage, and of course some sweet words.

It seems like you've had quite a few adventures in Camelot. I've just started going through your old posts of the gliders of the round table. What a great way to remember your experiences with them and share at the same time. I look forward to getting caught up on the tales.

Oh and I love your gligers names! What character does that make you?

I'm pretty sure I'm the whipping-boy who's cleaning the horse stalls in the background :roflmao2:

I look forward you reading more about your fluffy kids.
