Welcome to GC & Sugar Glider slave-hood.

Advice? Hmm...
1. Most important: Be patient (foot stomp!)
2. Be open minded as your new furball will have his own mind.
3. Get him a cage-mate to prevent lonelyness.
4. Love on him excessivly.
5. Enjoy the ride.

We look forward to getting to know you & Pips... & seeing many pictures wink Ask away as thoughts or questions occur to you, there is a wealth of knowledge available from dedicated caregivers to gliders.

Moving that much will be stressful. He'll either be an outgoing explorer or scared baby after all of that. Give him a few days to adjust before you start interacting with him, less change all at once. Then go slowly, speak to him through the cage & just be close, see his reaction. If he's timid, try feeding him little treats to create a positive association before proceeding.

I'm sure others will have much more to say.

Hutch has given you some good advice. Let the glider set the pace for bonding. Be patient.

So glad you're here!

I hope you don't give up easily as this little one may be a challenge.

You're about take him from all he knows (again), and place him in a new environment with new sights, smells, and sounds.

He is alone and scared as Hutch stated. He will need his space yet a lot of attention.

Most Gliders don't really like hands. Be sure to have a large piece of fleece 12"×12" or bigger. In case you must handle or catch him. It saves from being bitten.

Although he will be scared, he will show a brave face. He may crab and lunge (their defense). This is where the patience is needed. Try to stay calm. Soft voices and singing to him softly helps.

There is a lot of info here on bonding , safe wheels , diet , a vet database , cage , just click on blue words and it will take you to those topics.

Good luck with your new fur baby and please keep us posted.

P.s.: We love pics too!

So why are they rehoming?

And are you getting a cage too?

IMO, they aren't working with this glider, maybe just wearing him?

He's not getting good rest. He could be stressed.

Some gliders do better with an open pouch, antisocial- no.
Just scared.

Hum... I'm guessing he may not be neutered?

Some gliders are OK as singles, but require more human attention.

Then again, she may be interpreting their behavior wrong.

Their ages may be different enough or she didn't do intros correctly... Or give them enough of the right time together or just gave up. To protect her girls.

This little guy could be just given a bad rap, and not given a chance.

You are welcome.

If you decide to get this little guy, do it because you feel you could be his forever home and not because you feel sorry for him.

Some things to think about with him, and some prep will be needed.

Before he comes home, you will need some blankies ( fleece cut into 3 or 4 inch squares.). About 4 -6 will do. Place them under your pillow and sleep with them to get your scent on them. He will need 1 or 2 put in with him when you pick him up and to sleep with during the day. Change out every other day as he will mark over your scent, but this gets him used to your smell.

He will need a room where he won't be disturbed much during the day, and a closed door at night to keep the cats and dogs away. This is a safe spot for him. Your scent is very important.

You will need to spend time with him in the evening and /or early morning just being there talking to him...

Can you do this?

Awesome!

One more thing. His first night: before he arrives, wear an old t shirt all day, and once you get him settled in lay the worn tshirt on top of his cage. Make sure there are no loose threads.

I did this and found my first one (Fiona) had pulled it in a bit through from the top and made her a hammock out of it and slept there. It was so sweet...

Good luck!

And I am happy for you! I think you'll be a great Mom!

I did more research and i rescued two from someone else in oklahoma. I was really worried about getting the one she had. I got a daddy and his son. I got them on 1-7-16

I have been giving them treats. I do not know which is the daddy and which is the son. Not yet anyway. One stays in the pouch and only comes out to get a treat from me then goes right back in. The other will come out and smell my hand through the bars and take treats and stays out of his pouch more.

But yesterday he started trying to grab my finger.I am not sure if he is wanting to bit me or what he is trying to do. I know you are not suppose to pull you hand away if they bit but i also know that if he bits me i might out of relax. Should i let him bring my hand to him or should i wait. To be honest i am a little scared.

I got them saturday, so i thought starting today when i get off work i would put them in their bonding pouch and let them hang with me for a few hours while i cook dinner and do light cleaning. Also this way they can hear the kids.

Any thoughts or advise on any of this. I want them both to bond with me.

He might be checking your hand for treats. Be patient and feel him out.

They will grab your fingers for treats sometimes. Mine do it still and think another will just re appear in the same spot. After a few seconds, let go and watch for another treat.

Congrats on the boys! With having a bonded pair, you won't have a doubt they're social .

Do they both have bald spots? Or are they neutered?

The one that stays in the pouch may take longer to trust you, but he has a buddy and eventually he will watch, make sure no harm comes to the friendly one, and play monkey see monkey do. It may take a bit.

Please keep us updated.

The one that comes out has a bald spot. I think he might be the daddy. The daddy was bonded to the man that had them. But the baby did not bond with any one. They are not neutered. I am going to have them both neutered in a few months.

Ok here is ANOTHER question.

When they are sleeping i get the sleeping pouch out of the cage and pet them in the pouch. I move slow and i talk to them the whole time. But they still try to hide under each other. It looks like they are trying to dig out of the pouch or bury under the other one. Sometimes they stop and just lay there. And i pet them and talk to them. But sometimes they will do that the whole time i am holding them.

Any advice.

Some gliders simply don't like to be disturbed during the day as that is their sleeping time. Mine certainly didn't.

They also may just need a little more time to adjust. I wouldn't take it personally.

Mine seem to have reached a point where they like my hand 'sleeping' with them, but they will still occationally do this. I don't know if it's the light or just their idea of rolling over & going back to sleep.

Hi!
I just got my 2 girls on Saturday and I think I lucked out. I think I got bit 5 or 6 times between Saturday and Sunday but today, no bites! They're letting me move them from their cage pouch to the bonding pouch and letting me pet them! I just look in the pouch and speak softly and they stop crabbing. Then I can move them. I have the shirt I wore when I picked them up in their cage too.

I do not have a bonding pouch. I am going to try to make one. Last night was the first time i have been bit. But i think it was more my fault then theirs. I was feeding treats and i think my finger smelled like the treat. Cause he bit the end of my finger tip. It brought the blood. Kind of like when they take the blood for iron testing.

It scared me lol
