I just adopted two more gliders, bringing my total to nine, and the lady who was rehoming them said that one of them was an ebony sorong. This is a color classification I've never heard of before, so I'm wondering if anyone can clarify for me? Both of them look like pretty standard greys to me.

Maybe it is a Black Face? My Merlin is BF & he looks VERY similar to a classic. I sometimes have trouble telling him from Morgana, my classic. Are the dark marking more black than dark grey & the face marks more prominent?

LOL, I honestly can't tell. I don't even know which of the two she was referring to. One of them is very petite, the other is larger...I'll have to try and get some decent pictures of them.

Looking at the pictures posted on the link Karen shared... not a clue! I tried looking up sorong to see if it meant something specific & only came up with an Indonisan city.

If you're really interested, the breeder the link leads to chould be able to explain the difference. If you -do- ask... please share with us! I'm a little curious now since I couldn't spot the difference between the site's CG & ES wink

Ok, from what I gather studying the pedigrees in the Pet Glider Database, Ebony Sorong is a reference to their color and where they came from.

These were imported from Sorong, Indonesia and Ebony is the color.

Thank you, Feather/Kim.

Anyone know anything about this particular breeder?

I did call just now...the gentleman who answered the phone told me that they are just darker than the standard grey, but they aren't Black Beauties or Black Face Black Beauties, just darker. It didn't really alleviate my confusion. I told him that yes, one of mine is darker, but she's also very petite in comparison to all the rest of my gliders, and he said that they're the same size as other gliders, neither more petite nor robust. So essentially, I'm still confused lol. Oh, and they're also known as S & S Exotics, which I have heard of, and haven't heard much good about.

Honestly, in looking at them, I'd have to say that Maverick is much darker than either of the girls, and he's a standard grey, as far as coloration goes. Melisande is the darker of the two girls, so I'm guessing she's the ebony sorong, but she's still lighter than Mav.

Looking at the Glider Pets site, the 3 "Sorong" gliders posted right now are not dark or otherwise distinguishable from non-Sorong gliders. In fact, one of them is being called a Sorong but is listed as a Sorong x WFB, so I'm not sure how carefully the locality is being kept isolated in their gliders.

Karen, what are you curious about in terms of S&S exotics/Glider Pets? I've looked into the company for short tailed opossums and spoken to them a few times over the phone.

What happens when you've resized the picture below the required amount and the site still won't take it???

Okay, I've resized this darn picture no less than eight times so the site would finally accept it, and it's actually half the maximum size allowed, but it wouldn't take it otherwise, so I hope this works. It's a picture of Melisande, who's supposed to be an ebony sorong.

I use this site to shrink mine down before posting here. I use the 200x200pixel setting so it doesn't take people with slow interest forever to load. Also keeps my posts from being even longer (scrolling wise) then my verbosity already causes.

Shrink Pictures

Just be sure to save the picture &/or upload it somewhere else. The link they'll give to you post from expires quickly.

Nothing in particular other than I am not familiar with this breeder. Just wondered if anyone has heard of them.

Uploading photos. If you use photobucket , your photos are automatically sized for you with links for e-mail/IM, Direct, HTML and IMG which is the one which posts your picture directly to your post.

You can choose a free or paid account. I believe the paid is minimal and that way you do not risk loosing your pictures. To me it is worth not hassling with the worry of resizing wink

Karen, many of us would classify S&S exotics as a mill breeder of several exotics.

Absolutely. I missed the point that Glider Pets was part of or associated with S & S Exotics who is definitely a mill breeder frown
