I'm not sure if this is urgent , but wanted good advise . It looks like Bailey had a large patch of hair pulled out yesterday while in heat. Her skin is raw in a couple spots but no broken skin. Should I separate her immediately or see how it looks tomorrow

Yes, you will have to separate her until the hair has grown back. Her buddy will continue to help her keep it clean, doing more damage than good. You don't want them making it better.

If you can get some Veterycin or Microcyn (the hydrogel) is best and spray it on the wound a couple times a day.

This is the second time it has been bad. Do you think it's ok to separate her when she is in heat to avoid this issue. My other female doesn't have this problem, but she is a lot more strong willed than this glider.

Yes, it would be good idea to separate her from him when she is in heat.

I'ts now over a month, her wound is a lot smaller but still there. I've let her play with the others, and the other girl bites the wound off. Could it be absessed? She has lost so much weight from being alone,, I take fear out everyday, but I know she wants to be back with the other gliders. It makes me sad.

Add some avocado to her diet, she needs to stay alone until the hair grows back or her buddies will open it back up again.

It's been since April that Bailey has been separate due to wound. I did let her go with the gang a couple times and they licked it. It was pretty much gone now and I put her in with another glider and he opened it back up. Could she have an health issue that keeps her from healing. I have had to do this before and within a month it was completely healed. I know I need to keep her completely separate because no matter how small they will bug it.

Could she have diabetes?

Has it healed at all? Is the hair growing back yet?

I had a similar thing happen to my female glider, Smores, last year. She had a bite or puncture wound on the back of her neck. After she was separated from the male, Falcore, and the wound had closed up and the hair started to grow I put them back together. A few weeks later the hair over the wounded area was missing and the area was bald (about 1/4" circle). The skin was still closed and looked good so I let them be. Things were like this for probably 3 months. Next thing ya know... wounded again. Punctured again but not as bad. I separated them and started her treatment over. This time I made sure to leave them separate until her hair was entirely grown back to it full legnth and still waited an extra week or two before I put her back in with him. It was around 6-8 weeks total this time just to be safe.

During this time I let them spend time together each night. Sometimes in a shared pouch that I wore or with in/out of cage time all while being supervised. It's been about two months now since they are back together and so far things still look good.

I was also advised to let the hair grow back before putting them together and I thought since the enitre area was covered it would be ok. I learned that, that alone wasnt enough, it needs to be just as long and completely be back to normal appearance.

How is your gliders wounded area looking now? Is there bare skin any hair? Pics would help let us see how things are progressing.

Hope this helps some. I'm sure some others will have some great advice on continuing how to treat her.

Oh I'll also add that during this second bout it only took a week for the wound to heal up and close completely. All the rest of the separation time was just waiting on the hair to grow back.

I wouldn't put her back with them until all the hair has grown back or they will keep messing with it because it is different.

Ok thanks. My main question was about the slow healing. Could gliders get diabetes?
I was going to add a picture, but I'm not sure how.

I think they heal slow because they are always messing with it or their buddies try cleaning up the wound and make it bigger.
