So a random question I was thinking as I scanned the forums here: I feed the BML diet and my gliders love it. They eat all the paste at least, and most of the veggies and fruits (although I found they do NOT like grapes, except to lick juices off of but not actually eat).
If you are feeding treats and things throughout the day (I've seen things like egg or avocado), but they aren't on the list of approved BML things, are they ok for treats and just not as staples of the diet? I know treats and meals are different, but the BML seems pretty strict. I'm also thinking of getting some pellet food, and just not sure the best to use (critter love has 2 kinds, I just don't know which my gliders might like, any thoughts?) and would that mess the BML if they snack during the day?

Thanks!!!

Yes, BML is a strict diet.

Do not use eggs or another protein as a treat or snack.

You can give a small piece of avocado as a treat once in a while, not every day.

Most people give yogurt drops and mealworms as treats, these you would give in the morning so as not to spoil their dinner.

Hello,

I'm a new sugar momma and I was just reading over the BML diet. Why is it so strict? Is it because the diet has the appropriate nutrients and anything else is too much or would steer my glider away from the diet?

Thanks!
Tracie

That is exactly right, Tracie. Deviating from this particular feeding plan would throw off the balance of this diet. Per the creator, there is very little room for extras.

Success! Last night Joey got his first BML dinner. This morning I see that it is all gone! He even left a piece of his yogi drop behind. He must have gotten full. LOL. Last night before I put him to bed I found a new toothbrush to brush him with for fun. At first he turned away, but after a few more tries he started turning his chin up so I could brush there. That's his sweet spot just under his chin. smile Oh, my son watched me make the diet and wanted to taste it. Once he got a whif of it he ran. LOL

Treats honestly are not needed. I know, I know.....

With BML, the treats they get should really only be their mealworms in the morning. Gliders don't need all the sugar and other "junk" treats provide.

Did you know that gliders only need about 15-20 calories a day? If you fed one peanut as a treat, a single peanut has 10 calories. That is over to half of their daily calories right there!

So please, watch what you are offering as treats. If you feel you "need" to offer them, make sure they are at least healthy. I encourage treats during the bonding process, beyond that, they honestly don't need them and won't love you any less if they don't get them. Promise. wink
