Hello, i'm currently seeking advice. Due to the death of my eldest glider last month, I am currently seeking a cage mate for my glider. I came across a breeder who is hesitant to sell me pied ball for a decent price $400. The only issue she does have a tooth abscess and does need a dental. I was told she is or was on medications and the problem went away but would need a dental. This isn't a problem for me as I work in an exotics vet. But Id like to get other peoples point of view. As my significant other is kinda against me making this purchase due to the glider having this health issue.
I must also add that this glider is not friendliest, but thats okay with me.
*Im new here, sorry if I posted this on the wrong section*

Dental issues, especially an abscess (as you probably already know) can be very expensive and do not always heal as we would like in gliders. Many times even after the tooth is removed, the abscess returns or there are still issues. It can be a very nasty process.

I am very concerned that a breeder would leave a glider in this condition without seeking medical attention as soon as she realized there was problem, much less even consider selling the glider with an abscess.

If this glider has had the abscess for any length of time, there is no telling how far the infection has already spread.

Poor little glider.

I agree with Karen, I also can't believe that breeder would knowingly sell a glider with unresolved dental issues.

Thanks for the reply, she said she has taken her to the vet. They have had several x-rays but they found nothing, but was treated with medications and that has helped so far. But I believe she was told this glider would need a dental eventually. The only reason she is rehoming her to me is because i'm a vet tech and employed in a exotic vet clinic. Other than that she really wouldn't want her re-homed without the dental. Thats the same thing thats on my mind, the healing part... I was quoted $400 for the dental at my job(not including my discounts). But I was told to really think this through if i'd like to adopt this glider, because she may get very costly if it doesn't heal properly. Im in a tough spot, I'd really love to take this glider, but no one knows how bad it really is until she'd under........

We have had several members who had a glider with recurring abscesses after a tooth extraction. It would heal and then reappear. The abscess would then need to be drained again with more meds and constant cleaning on the owner's part.

It is also very hard on the glider. Some go through this process many times and some sadly don't.

You can never know if your glider will be the one to heal up the first time or the one who will need many treatments at a very high cost.
