NOTE: I know you shouldnt use a harness on a glider- This is just a pondering idea question- thats all ^^

okay- so-

Hi! its been a while! For those of you wondering me and my gliderbutts have been doing splendidly- lots of cuddles snuggles and naps- but i admit my boys are stubborn and bonding isnt being easy but im patient...

Anyway- onto the topic question-

I know you cant put harnesses on gliders due to them ripping the Gliding membrane... but.. WHAT IF- and its just a what if- you didnt put the other part around the stomach.under arms etc...?

What if it was made to have one part around the neck and the other around the base of their tail?

I dont mean this as a Use it for walks harness- more of a safety net- like if it gets scared or something unexpected happens- and you need it to be easier to save- It seems almost like that might work... since the tail is pretty strong (I know its partially prehensile) But again Im not 100%- So I thought I'd bring it up and ask the experts my curious idea.

Again I know not to use a harness- this is just a thought. ^^

I do understand why a harness would be beneficial.

The way gliders are so flexible however, they would figure out how to get it off their tail. I wouldn't risk it because of the damage it could do if they decided they wanted to chew on that part of the collar.

Oh yea I can see the benefits of having a harness just for that "extra protection" but I wouldnt use one.

But couldnt you basically "Train" them not to mess with it? I mean I've heard of people training Gliders to wear a harness and not mess with it. (Sort of simliar to how you would an e jacket or anything you dont want them to bother)

Gliders really aren't trained to wear anything. With the e-collar or e-jackets,
they simply will after a while give up struggling to get out of it. Even then they will continue from time to time as this is not natural for them to wear. The same applies to the harness.

You may see some gliders wearing one apparently comfortably (like at trade shows, etc) however, you will probably find those gliders have been sedated or given some mood altering substance so they will not struggle. This also makes them seem like they are easy pets rather than what they really are.

Yea I watched a Program where a guy brought a sugar glider to be on tv- and it had a harness on- it looked uncomfortable- and he kept it appeased with mealworms. It may have also been sedated- because it didnt really try to go anywhere- and it definately wasnt near him so it obviously wasnt bonded.

Poor sedated babies....Thats just asking for trouble! Cant too much really hurt them? I wouldnt ever sedate mine- I'd just leave em at home!

Well we certainly know what being in a constant altered state does to humans, don't we :nanana: Just imagine what it would do to such a tiny creature shock
