Hi, I've recently started working at a petshop where they sell a little male glider, he is very thin and his fur is completely yellow. Overall he isn't looking very healthy at all.

I would love to know how could I help him get better, sadly purchasing him and housing him isn't an option. I only work there on sundays and holidays but while I'm there I would love to do as much as I can for him.

He is fed insectivore pellets, mealworms and fruit only. I already spoke to the manager and asked if they could start giving him some veggies (but they haven't purchased them yet and it's been a while so I'll take some of my glider's salad mixtures for him). Is this OK?

I was also thinking on giving him some of my glider's Complete, but I was wondering if feeding him that once a week would do more harm than good. What do you think?

I'd appreciate any suggestions and ideas from you, I know I can't do much but I just can't sit and do nothing.
Thank you very much.

I understand your anguish, I've experienced a situation concerning a Bearded Dragon at a pet store, though I was not employed there. I too did not have the option to purchase and house him/her. It was very sad, and still angers me when I remember it.

I don't know if feeding a healthy diet once weekly is more harmful, but doubt that it's enough to make a huge difference. But, I feel, you can at least do that, then you know you've done all you could. Also, you may possibly set an example to others working there. Maybe other employees would be willing to pitch in to help get this poor baby on a healthy diet.

It also wouldn't hurt to inform the owner that a healthy looking animal sells faster than an ill, underweight looking animal.

Thank you Terry for your response.

I agree with you in that it isn't going to be enough to make a difference, but I'm going to try and see if I could get as many employees there to at least give him some veggies everyday, because right know those who know what a glider is think it should eat sweet sugary things.

The problem is that it's a big store with many workers and I'll probably won't ever meet all of them.

I was wondering if someone knew of a cheap diet that could work for this little guy, because I'm sure they wouldn't order some Complete or anything alike.

I was thinking some sort of BML or something I could make and leave in the freezer for him. (??)

PD: I'm not saying Complete is cheap or expensive, I just meant they won't go through the trouble of ordering food from another country.

Your very welcome. I'm glad you are working there, you're the best hope this glider has until he's adopted.

If you could just get a few on board, and then maybe they could help spread the word.

I agree about taking better diet stuff for him, but I would also try to educate the owner of the pet store on good glider care.

Give him or her the link to Glider Central.
