Well we all know that our fuzzy companions LOVE treats, especially yogies! I've tried many yogies for my gliders and most I'm just not completely satisfied with for some reason or another...

Some yogies are to dry and too gummy.
Some are made way to big for a treat and chopping in half crumbles them most of the time.
Some have vitamins which are unnecessary for treats.
Sometimes I just think they need variety from the plain white chips, well because they're plain (I know, it's a me thing).
Sometimes it's the weather that's the problem, like right now, it's too hot for shipping and they melt into a blob.
Sometimes it's the pricing that fluctuates to double the norm, which is a current problem of mine. One of their fav yogies is now over $8 (w/o s&h) for a 3oz bag when it use to be $3.

Soooo last week I decided to make my own flavored yogie drops. My first batch of pineapple, mango, appricot with added dry mealworms was a big hit for all three! Today I made another batch of cherry/blueberry with mealworms! They haven't tried them yet but I'm confident they will enjoy them also. I made the first two batches in drop form then I took some of each batch and mixed them together and made a type of glider "brittle" as well.

Has anyone else had issues with finding good yogies or made their own? I couldn't find any recipes for treats or yogies.. does anyone have some recipes to share?

Here's some pics of what it all looks like...

Very ambitious of you. I'm sure your gliders appreciate them.

Very awesome! No, I only ever ordered yogis once for my gliders. It was too warm and they were kind of a melted blob, plus my gliders didn't care for them.

I've been tempted to try them again sometime, could you share your recipe with us please? I might like to try a homemade, flavored yogi treat with my trio.

Thanks everyone!

I don't really have an exact recipe, I just eyeballed all the amounts of each ingredient. Next time I make them I will have to measure for exact amounts.

I basically melt an entire bag of the white chips. I then used a mix of dry fruit maybe about a 1/4c. and chopped them as fine as possible. I used about about 1/8c. of dry mealworms and about 3TB of strawberry flavored glider chow pellets. I gradually added all these ingredients in a grinder/blender and ground them up until fine crumbles. My gliders didn't care much for the glider chow alone, so I didn't use it for them for quite some time, but with this it helps in grinding the dry fruit by keeping it not too sticky and clumpy. Then I added the crumbled mix to the melted chips, stirred them up, put then in a ziplock bag with the corner cut (or use a piping bag) and made the drops. If you roll out the mix between parchment paper you can make the brittle type. You can put them in the frige to harden but they don't need to stay in there.

I plan on just playing around with different ingredients for each batch. What I've made all ready will last a while though, they only get one drop a day mostly agree

If anyone else has some recipes to share for any type of treat, I'd love if you'd share!

How are you storing them? From the pictures you posted of what you have made and only giving them one chip a day, you have quite a supply.

With the two batches I made, I'd say each batch would make about 2 mason jars of drops 3/4 full each. I keep the jars I'm currently using on the shelf storage under their cage just closed tight. The jars that I don't need yet I have a press and seal cling wrap over the glass jar then the lid screwed on tight. I suppose those extra jars could be stored in the frige if wanted.

I will admit that there are days where they may get two drops, one early in the morning a occasionally one later in the afternoon, if I catch them up and about. They will also get two while I trim nails, I can usually get the job done in two yogies, but that's only twice a month. Most days it is just one, and their eating habits for the good food (CL Complete & salad) don't really get bothered by the treats.
