My boyfriend and I have two male sugar gliders Creature and Casper. About a month or two Casper mounted Creature and injured him. Since then we have been keeping them in separate cages letting them have supervised playtime and we swap their cages every night so that both scents are in both of the cages. Creature and Casper have been doing really well with the supervised playtime and cuddling in the pouch together, so we made the decision to put them back in the same cage together on Thursday night. They did great Thursday night and all day Friday, however on Friday night early Saturday morning we heard them them crabbing at each other and my boyfriend went to check on them and found Casper trying to mount Creature. So to prevent another injury we separated them again. Casper and Creature have been cage mates for 3-4yrs and haven't had any issues like this before we have heard them crabbing at one another before but they usually stop and have never cause injury to one another. We are unsure what to do and we don't to have to keep them separated with the fear that they will get depressed and possibly die. We want to do what is best for our fur babies.

Are they intact or neutered?

They may just be arguing over who the alpha is.

Do they only scrap inside pouch? Or maybe at dinnertime too?

We think Creature maybe neutered cause they don't hang as low. No they don't crab in their pouches or when we feed them. We are wondering if we get Casper neutered if that will help. We are thinking that Casper is trying to be the more dominate one since he knows that Creature is getting up their in age. Is that something that is normal with males arguing over who is alpha? They love playing in the bathtub together and in the same pouch they just click away at each other, they will even look at each other in through the cages and click at each other. I just fear that they will not be able to be in the same cage again and that they will get depressed.

Both boys should be neutered. With his testosterone in check, its less likely there will be mating wounds.

Each glider has a job in a colony... A pecking order so to speak. And the alpha position can be challenged from time to time. My girls challenge the pecking order occasionally.

After getting Casper neutered how long should we wait before we try and let them be cage mates again or do you think that they will be able to be cage mates again? Is there a way for us to tell if Creature is actually neutered? Thank you so much for the advice Dawn it has been very helpful to us.

He could have had a pom on neuter. The vet can tell. I'm sorry I can't.

It never hurts to take them both in to be checked out anyway . WWhen we took the girls in together for their well check, we actually got a discount because we took them in together.

Depending on the type of neuter, they could be kept together, or at the most separated for a week. Swapping pouches during this time will help for re- intros.

Since I have gurls, I feel I have no personal experience to share on different types of neuter, but there are others here who can give food advise.

I am actively seeking a male neutered for my girls so I may have more insight. So we will learn together.

If your glider has had a pom off neuter you will see nothing.

I have attached a picture of an intact male glider's pom, if your glider is neutered pom on you can gently squeeze the pom, neutered you will feel nothing, intact you will feel two little beebees.
