I've had my glider since December and the bonding has been slow but she recently got a dominance wound and I had to separate her and ever since she's been a lot more comfortable with me. She will jump on me and let me take her out of the cage and hand her treats and since she's been sleeping all by herself I'll sometimes put my hand in for her to cuddle with. But she's still very skittish. Sometimes when I move my hand towards her she still runs away even though sometimes she doesnt. My boyfriend has handled her as well though not as much and she will still crab at him and run from him. If she's out of the cage any noise at all even if it isn't loud makes her jump and run, which doesn't happen to my other gliders. What can I do to make her less nervous all the time? She's slept with my hand for HOURS and I've brought her to classes with me a few times with no issues and she's run around the house a few times but she still seems terrified

If the house is mostly quiet, sudden noises will startle them.

I have a biter, and I took a chapter out of some advise Bourbon gave me. She says to use the same comforting simple sentence over and over to let them know it's OK. Use it when petting, introducing a new food or treat, when you accidentally bump the cage, thunderstorms, sudden noises, etc. Really anytime they or she gets startled.

I started with " It's alright" speaking softly several years ago. Bourbon suggested " It's OK" . I do follow with their name if only one of them is upset. (Mine do know their names).

Sometimes I'll sing lullabies softly if they are really stressed, or read a book.

Gliders are each unique in personality. She may always be a bit skittish, but it's a good idea to calm her and let her know she is safe.

My three are skittish or jumpy in different ways...
Fiona is the scout or watcher. She takes in her environment very quickly. She runs and looks in all corners inside and outside the cage. Once she's checked everything out, she sits back and observes. Dot is easily startled and jumps around the cage, away from what surprised her and makes like crashing noises. Stewie is calculated. He stops and watches. He's the first to come forward and check out the noise or disturbance.

Excellent, Dawn. Gliders are indeed unique, and sometimes we need to just sit back and observe their personalities.
