So I have a colony of 6 gliders, they have been together for about 4 years. 1.5 years ago I put them in a glider safe room. 15 feet by 10 feet.
I leave the cage open and at night they move around freely, during the day they sleep in the pouch in the cage. One glider almost never leaves the
cage, it is a big cage, the other 5 will sleep during the night outside the cage. At one time this was in a card board box filled with fleece extras.
Now I added another cage on other side of the room about 3 months ago, put just a few items in it, another wheel, castle, hanging cups for treats.
during a room cleaning I put the ball pit (unused) on bottom shelf of new cage with fleece blanket and neck bonding pouch. they have made a nest
in the ball pit blanket and nap there at night, 2 to 5 of them.

so.. my worry comes up because the last 2 days I did the normal pouch check for 6 healthy gliders in the morning about 10 AM during removal of the old
food. but first morning I found 4 in pouch and 2 still in ball pit. second night I found 3 in cage pouch and 3 gliders in ball pit on other side of room.

Is this separation during the day bad for the colony?
I have seen them sleep apart in second pouch in cage, but never so far away.
At night they are still running around normal.

This is totally my observation. It sounds as if you have created a mini jungle like ecosystem in this room. It also sounds like you may have at least 2 gliders vying for alpha.

If I had the arrangement you have, I would keep a logbook and do a headcount daily. See who is staying with whom.

I'm rather curious myself how this will turn out for you.

Have they been marking a territory? Or can you tell?

If you do have another alpha wannabe, I suppose you may want to ask yourself if you want 2 cages of gliders eventually.

Since no one is being injured, and if you plan to keep a glider room permanently, again it would be interesting what the outcome will be.

thanks for the input. Right now Gus is the major alpha. he puts up with NO grief from the other gliders.
we have added these gliders together in pairs of 2, we got put to 10 then downsized to 6. we did try to add
2 returned giveaways, but Gus had none of that, lots of scent training but only fighting at intro.

anyway, did worry about the gliders becoming more separate colony, but the two that are sleeping
apart, sophie and riggs are not alpha material.
I have seen gliders sleep in different areas of a cage, but 15 feet apart seems a big distance.

will have to wait and see, I will spend 1 hour tonight with them and see how they act.
