Hey guys --

I usually peel the skin off of the apples before feeding it to my glider. Is that alright that I'm not giving him any of the skin? ...sounds like a silly question but --

Same with me. I'll peel apples, canteloupe or watermelon gets the rind cut off, grapes get washed & cut in 1/2 lengthwise...no need to skin them since the suggies eat the centers out.

I rehomed 2 adult females with a good friend of mine. I called her after a few days to see how they were doing. I had told her to peel the fruit she gave them. So she did, the grapes too. LOL I really didn't think she would go that far or I would have told her she didn't have to peel the grapes. Oh well, live and learn.

I wash and peel everything too. Mine haven't had grapes in a long time though cause of the grape scare.

Here's the link to the thread on the Grape Controversy, with the discussion of and link to Lisa's SunCoast article (in the thread).

I also peel everything, including grapes. I just don't like taking chances. I know most gliders won't eat the skin or will spit out the seeds, but what if one of mine does eat the skin and seed? I do know the way they eat, they at least suck on the skin before spitting it out.

So with the BML diet -- grapes is listed as one of the fruits that are allowed to be fed to gliders -- I'm guessing not many are feeding grapes to their gliders these days? Any substitution then -- just for varieties sake?

Well, I know some of us still feed grapes on occasion (I do, for instance). And I know with many of us, we've found that offering less of a variety actually makes for less picky eaters, as contradictory as that might seem. Most nights mine get a mix of just watermelon, honeydew, and cantaloupe, and they always eat everything.

I guess I just want to be a good slave and follow instructions. If a variety is what my babies want, or I want to feed, then I would just choose a different diet. But since mine eat everything out of every bowl, I don't need to.

The only other issue I have with the BML is that I can't find any chicken baby food. The stores don't bring them in. ;0;!

There are several chicken baby food brands that you can use in the BML:

Del Monte
Beechnut
Gerber
Heinz

Mine really like the Beechnut though! I find it at different stores, Super Wal-mart, the grocery stores, some dollar stores, but really check the expiration dates there, (Actually, everywhere we shop, really, we should be checking the exp. dates)
You can find it at some of the Glider supply vendors on line too ....

I buy my baby food for .79 cents per jar. The only site I've seen selling it is charging $2 per jar. Since I go through 2 jars of chicken baby food per night...I just have to find it locally. (locally is an hours drive from me though).

I peel my fruits simply because the gliders don't eat the skins and tend to throw it all over the place. It cuts down on the amount of food waste going into the drop tray and so cuts down on the smell. For me, it is more the drop tray that smells bad, the spoiling food, then it is anything else. The gliders actual scent I find musky but a pleasant smell. The rotting food though is just nasty! So, I do peel my fruits. Except for when I feed grapes. I don't peel those, just cut them in half.
