Suggies can get diarrhea from citrus fruits but if you`ve noticed the diarrhea a couple days ago and they still have it, you should really get them to the vet ASAP as they can dehydrate very quickly. It may not be any food that caused it, especially if it isn`t gone by now. Does your friend rotate foods each night or is he/she feeding the same things everyday? I wouldn`t let it go on any longer though, please ask your friend to get the suggies to the vet right away before it`s too late.

Welcome to GC! Your questions and concerns are always welcome here smile. Good luck and please keep us updated.

IF this remains a problem then a vet visit is defiantly called for…

I would not recommend grape jelly for a glider-even as a treat. The closest thing (as an occasional treat, is Hawaiian Delight babyfood....but not jelly. Is there any way you can find out exactly what she feeds, and let us know? Other than that, if it's been going on a couple days a vet visit is def. in order asap. If it's diet, we need to know all the things she feeds to tell if that is a factor (which is a possibility, if she thinks it's okay to feed grape jelly).

well i found out what she feeds on a daily basis, and if i do say so myself, it doesnt sound good to me.... all that i know of that she feeds is mineral pellets from wal-mart for rats and so on, and grape jelly, and also from time to time some fruit, and thats it.... sounds to me like she really needs to put them on a more healthy diet than just that, almost like she's feeding them junk.

Oh no!!!! This poor baby is on a horrid diet! I would have her get him to the vet asap and also you can look up (and print out for her) the BML diet, the Darcy diet, PML diet. This suggie is not getting anything (except for the occasional fruit) that it needs! Does she have internet access? There is a lot of diet info out there. I am worried about this glider. How long has she had it and feeding it this way?

Can you let her know there are some wonderful diets out there. One of the best things she can do for her pets is to get them started on a good diet right away. Here is the BNL diet link which is what many people feed thier gliders.

First, know we aren't "yelling" at you or anything, we are VERY concerned about these little ones diet, tho. A rat pellet is not sufficient, and could cause jaw issues, HLP (Hind Leg Paralysis, aka Calcium Deficiency or Metabolic Bone Disease), and other problems. Please take a look at our diet links, and pass a couple on (the easiest are BML and Darcy's). I would venture a guess that the diarrhea IS diet related, with worse to come if not corrected, and in a glider, diarrhea itself can kill if let go. Please keep us updated, and here is a list of GC's diets:

http://www.glidercentral.net/links/pages/Glider_Care___Information/Diet___Nutrition/index.html

We also don't recommend those hard pellets for gliders, due to the risk of jaw infections, unless they are softened in water first. And I would say a vet visit is necessary at this point.

I'd also say to try the "tent test"-pull up the skin at the base of the glider's neck, almost between the shoulders. If it stays 'tented', or goes down slowly, the glider is dehydrated and may need sub-q fluids from the vet. Keep us updated.

You ARE a great friend, both to her and to the gliders! Kudos to you for probably saving these gliders. I doubt they could have lived long at all on rat pellets and jelly!
