Oh what a Doll baby! Tail or no tail, he is beautiful!
I have a WFB with a partial tail. She had about half of it amputated after a fight with her cage-mate. She is beautiful and just fine without it. She still has some tail, but it is short. I still love her to pieces. We say Jezabelle just doesn't have as much "junk in her trunk" as the other gliders do.
(Psssst! Don't tell her she is different, she has no idea!)

We have a beautiful girl that has less than half of her tail. The only thing is they can't glide but we don't care, we love her to pieces. He sure is a cutie pie!!

Here's a couple pics of our tail-less Gim. Other than he'd wobble and crash when he tried to glide (but was getting better at it toward the end)he was just fine, and could do anything any other glider can do. His tail was pulled off by a former owner. Anyway, here's Gimli:

I had a wonderfull experience with a tailess glider. I called her Jax. When I got her, she was older than dirt. They can't glider because many of the muscles they use for their first initial spring are located at the hips, tied to tail tendons. Once the tail is removed or partialy removed, the muscles are weaker. The tail also serves as a rotor for turning and balancing in mid air. With out the tail, it's dangerous to glide. They can go into a roll. They move a little slowere, but that meant more time to hang with me! It also meant more tim to pee on me.
This is Her story. To this day, I have a little bell hanging from Marbles cage with her name written on it. Ironic how Marble's current mate is also a rescue with a leg missing. http://www.sugarglider.net/ubbthreads/ub...e=0&fpart=1
Best to all! I am already fighting tears remembering my tailess wonder.
Gil, I'll join you in the tears! I wasn't on GC way back then, but in reading that post I can tell Jax was well loved for the time you had her! It takes a special guy to admit his feelings like that, and even more special to make it public! I will add her to my list of special angels who I light candles for every night!
Gil, well she has new thoughts tonight of her. I wasn't here and didn't know what a glider was back then. It's obvious how much you loved/love her still. Tell your wife she is one lucky woman to have a man with a heart as big as yours. Us women cry all the time (so we are told) about the small things. When a man does, it makes him all that much larger. Thanks for taking her when you did and giving her so much love. (going off now to find more Kleenex)

Thanks for all of your thoughts. the important part of this thread is that TheAmB has an important duty as a new glider owner and now, the owner of a glider with limitations. A glider with these or any limitations should have plenty of room to live and the resources to get from one side of the cage to the other. A Glider that can't glide (jump) may be that last to get to a food bowl. They also have a harder time to get to the water and even the pouch. I do know that, even when gliders have issues, they all enjoy a wheel. That keeps them active, and active is another way for them to stay healthy, lean and strong.
Our ahem "limited" (shhhh, they don't know they are) gliders's cage is not tall like all our other cages. It is 30 inches tall by 36 inches wide and 18" deep and has two platforms and 2 doors. We have 2 wodent wheels in it that the metal was bent to fit so the wheels hang almost flush (I can get a pic for you) We always keep TWO water bottles on the lower level and hang the food dishes so they can reach them from a standing position (although they climb up to them anyway) and put a dish on each side of the front of the cage (each side of the door) They love the Weeble wobble toys cause they can't knock them down. We have a hammock, hidey pear and strawberry and a pouch in there for them. You will be fine with your new baby and if you need ANY help at all, we are all here for you!
Miss Izzy is wobbly cause she only has part of her tail and fell once on the carpet and couldn't turn herself over. She looked like a turtle does on its back. Broke my heart but she sure didn't mind! LOL Oh, and she fell like 14 inches but it scared me to death!
I have a picture of her spreading her "wings". When she first wakes up, she climbs up and hangs upside down like a bat and spreads her platigum for like 10 plus minutes to stretch and flaps them like a little bird. The only thing we can think of is that she is actually pretending to glide and it sure is beautiful and amazing to see her do it!
I can't figure out how to put a pic on here so if you want you can pm or email me and I'll send it to you.

Tiger Lilly has barely a stump for a tail (resulting from my admitted stupidity over choosing an exercise wheel with a center axle) and her mate, Willly Wonka....well it's still a mystery to me as to where HIS tail went (maybe he made fun one too many times of Lilly & she said "I'll show YOU what my life is like!"...I honestly don't know)
They don't glide like the rest of my bunch, but they ARE so very SPECIAL to me!! They spend all their "outside the cage" time on me, climbing down my legs (preferably when I have LONG PANTS on, thank you) and up my back & sitting on my shoulders. They come out to the kitchen with me to fix their dinner, they don't stray off, they anxiously wait for me to take them back to their room & their cage so they can have THEIR DINNER!
The special things I've put in their cage is a rope (for fast up & down movement), three separate "tiers" made from pieces of another cage, and lots of ladders & slopes to get from one level to another. I'm "computer challenged" too & can furnish pictures on request.

I don't have my pics uploaded to a server. They are all on my computer, so not sure how to put one in here anymore

Hmmm, if you wanna email me the pic, I can through it on my server for you and make the link, just lmk. Otherwise, you'd need to use photobucket or one of the other pic sites and link to the uploaded pic there...
When you click reply, go to the bottom of the page that pops up, you will see 'file manager', click on that and than browse. If you want to add more than one pic, keep clicking 'add' and when you are done, the all done (or something like that....CRS strikes again! lol)
