I have a rejected joey that is about two and a half weeks old. I have been feeding wombaroo milk. Is the mix of milk with BML better or equally good? He was pushed out today and has been accepting the milk well but i want to make sure it is the most nutritionally sound supplement.

the best milk replacement for the joey's is actually puppy formula and pedalite for kids,bc puppy formula is not that high in lactose,i have a glider that i have raised from a joey at about 3 weeks ofp. And that's all i fed him, about every two hours day and night, for about 4 months and now he is a healthy 8 month old glider!!!

I disagree!
While there is no substitute for mother's milk, "Wombaroo" is the closest to natural that we can provide our glider's.
"Wombaroo" milk formulas have been designed for the growth stages of marsupials.
A substitute marsupial milk formula needs to reflect a joey's nutritional needs at different stages of it's growth, & MUST also supply the required energy for those growth stages.

From Australian researcher's & care-taker's -
Possums, Glider's, Bandicoots, Quolls, Bettongs, & all other Macropods, have all been found to suffer from nutrient deficiencies on formulas other than "Wombaroo"
(I would stick with what your doing)!

At 2 1/2 weeks oop, you can use the BML mix, minus the eggshell and the baby will be just fine. I am talking from my own personal experience. Warm it up (BML), mix 1/3 water to 2/3 BML, feed every 3-4 hours and the baby will be fine. Remember to stimulate it to go to the bathroom, and good luck.

Ok
Ok, I can tell this will be a discussion, but, I will be a mediator here. I use both. For the first three weeks I mix the Baby BML with the Wombaroo. Three parts milk to one part Baby BML. At three weeks I go half and Half. Everyone likes the real cream don't they
Hope, my glider was rejected two hours after birth. This is the way I have raised her. I had a mama for two years that rejected every joey and finally she is no longer allowed to breed. She had 10 rejected joeys in that time. The Baby BML/Wombaroo is the best by far. I have tried all the combinations listed above. Another thing to mention is this:
A joey is not born with Antibioties. The colostrum comes in the first 72 hours and it contains a lot of the antiobioties for the baby. If a joey does not get this feeding, there is not much chance for survival. Just one feeding in the 72 hours can make all the difference in the world. It is not like a human where you get antibioties in the womb first and come into this world with them. Hope had no antibioties and she is a very healthy female glider. Through all of this I also learned too that even though she was hand-fed, she was still an alpha female and loves to nip. You would think she would be butter in my hands, but NO she has that attitude. Anyway, just thought I would post a picture here of her too, but it is too large, so you can go and see her. I call her the miracle baby cause she not only was born with the odds against her, she was born on 9/11 Hope

i am going to mix in a little BML and see how he likes it. Another issue...his feces are very runny and yellow. Is this normal or a joey or does he have diarhhrea? I have been mixing the milk with pedialyte just in case. Could someone describe good poop consistency!
Thanks everyone for the replies!

Sheila,
"Hope" is just beautiful & so very precious!

My concern would be in the blending/mixing of BML & Wombaroo together.

Stated in Wombaroo's booklet -
"Do not concentrate our milk replacers by introducing additional nutrients or making them up to a volume less than stated on the label. Overfeeding may cause diarrhoea."

Marsupials do not produce a colostral milk
(1st milk) as such, but a joey continues to receive immunoglobulins throughout lactation, antibodies are present in mom's milk through most of the lactation period.
With an orphaned joey, being handraised by us, they are prone to all kinds of problems due to their low immunity.

Get the baby off what ever milk you are feeding if it has diarreah. It should have a stool with a little softness to it but formed.

Suggest going straight with the BML with it diluted a little. Since the little one is close to 3 weeks oop. do not bother with the Baby version.

Make sure consistancy is like a rich gravey. Just thin enough to go through a syringe.

Diarreah in babies is either from too much fat in the milk or too much water in it from improper ratio of mixture. Either way...go to the BML now. If the diarreah continues the baby will become dehydrated and die.
