No, my vet was pretty surprised and didn't see anything under the microscope. He said the best way to describe it was a "mushy grape". Winston had just had his well exam about 1 month prior to this and no problems. He's about 3 1/2 years old and the previous home wasn't very good, but he's been w/me for almost 1 year and has had no physical problems. He was out last night running around and still eating/drinking well. He's just upset that's he's in a cage alone. My vet was going to call some other vets and talk to them about it, and I thought I would try here. I've never read anything about it. I've got my last 2 intact boys going in 2 weeks for their neuters so hopefully nothing strange there. I'm going to keep an eye on Winston and I'll update here if my vet finds anything new on it. Thanks.

I've never heard about this either. Please let us know what your vet finds out. All in all tho, it's probably a good thing he was neutered & this was discovered.

it's probably a good thing he was neutered & this was discovered. That's the first thing I said, too, Chris. I just checked the surgery site and it's looking great. Also, there were no signs of anything abnormal externally. I'll keep you posted.

Yes, but we won't get results back until next week at the earliest. I got to see a pic of it on the digital camera and it look necrotic to me. That's what the vet thought too. He called me a little bit ago to check on him and he's thinking that the blood supply was cut off to it. He talked to another vet here in Florida who said the same thing. I asked about cancer and he said he doesn't think we're going to get a positive result on this test...just necrotic. Very strange, though. I'm just really happy he's doing well. Really well, actually! His brother is next up for surgery. I'm going to try to move it up to this week. I don't think this is anything genetic, but you never know.

It sounds like you have a good vet, and I'm glad your little one is doing well. I suppose it's possible it could have been caused by an unnoticed injury/fall.
Hopefully the lab results will give an answer but may not.
I'm sure he will continue to do well with his recovery.

How wonderful to have a great vet...it sure puts you at ease to know doesn't it.
So glad everything is turning out for this little guy and best of luck with the surgery of the second
Keep us updated on both babies and the results of 'grape'... sure would be interesting to know why
Take care

All I can think as to cause is a possible injury...either a fight with another glider, or getting it caught on something. I don't know of any disease that could affect one and not the other...but I'm not a vet and there's a lot I don't know. Did your vet have any theories?

No, he didn't have any ideas as to the why. These 2 were kept together at their previous home, so I don't know if there were any fights/injuries then. My vet didn't think it was recent...more of a slow necrosis of the tissue. Maybe I'll know more when the lab results come back, but my vet doesn't think we're going to learn anything new there. I am going to move up the neuter on Winston's brother to this week so I'll see how his goes. Winston's still doing fantastic. He's just upset about being caged alone. The females he'll be joining were out w/him last night and didn't bother the surgery site, but I quickly discovered that Magnolia is in season so he can't go in w/them now...not from lack of trying on his part though. At least I know the remaining "equipment" still works. I'm giving him extra playtime, but he's very crabby w/me...just wants his girls. I told him he can join them by Christmas but he's not very patient! LOL I'll let you know if we find out more w/the lab. I'll also ask if my vet still has the pic on the digital, but I think they erase them once it's printed into the chart. If I can get a copy, I'll post it.

Just an update. No sign of cancer/disease in the lab results. My vet still thinks it was a lack of circulation...possibly from old injury. Winston is doing better than ever! His brother Wesley was neutered 2 days ago and there were no abnormalities w/him. He's also doing fantastic. Although they weren't in favor of having this surgery, they both want to send hugs out to their wonderful vet! I haven't been able to find any other info on a problem like Winston's, but I'm going to keep looking.
