This is their 2nd litter. The two girls before were perfectly fine..
I dont know why.. but since he came OOP on Friday (larger than usual, since he didnt have to share a pouch).. he has n't really been nursing.. I dont think Bonnie rejected him.. she licks him and everything, but he has a hard time finding the nipple I think... and then at night he was left alone, he would cry but mommy/daddy dont seem to care... finally this morning, after a sleepless night trying to feed him 'soemthing' (yogurt) i took a day off work and went shopping for all kinds of milk replacer. I used esbilac.. fed him once (he really wasn't eating all that much) and after 1pm he passed away.. mommy started to chew on him... I took hinm out and burried him... i dont know why this happened... Mom and dad lick him very well, but he just somehow could not find the nipple?? he would cry, and just gets ignored...whats the deal? i started noticing that he wasn't nursing on Sat. when Bonnie/ Clyde were mating again... how many nipples does she have? if she has joeys it should still be enough milk?? what was wrong/??

I am so sorry. It is heartbreaking to watch a baby go down hill and not know what went wrong.

Sometimes...hormones that are needed to stimulate the milk appear to be affected when the mother is about to rebreed or being stressed due to enviroment as well as diet. A comibination of these will cause the milk supple to dwindle and although the mother is feeding it...the little one becomes weaker and weaker. This should be noticed when a healthy baby appears and in a day or two is loosing weight and/or is crying.

It is suggested to supplement these little ones several times a day...for a week or better till the milk supply catches up with the demands of the little one.

There is a sticky at the top of this forum with a Yellow Thumb Tack...print it out. Reread it several times...get the supplys you need ahead of time. With a mom who has a history of babies not getting enough milk...be prepared ahead of time to supplement feed joey after it comes oop. as your female sounds like she did try her best to feed it.

If this cannot be done...then suggest neutering of the male to prevent such heartache for all.

last night, I kept thinking, my joey starved to death... I saw it coming and didn't do much about it until it was too late... all this time, he was n't nursing and I didn't look INTO it... I feel so aweful... he starved to death...I didn't think there would be any problem since this is their 2nd time... I wish I did something earlier.... now it is on my conscience...

Please don't beat yourself up over this. It's in the past, and your little one is over the Rainbow Bridge, playing with all the other gliders watching over us. Now you have more experience and can be better prepared for the future.
