[:"CC6699"]At first I was just going to keep freezing the ensure, but with 6 gliders I am going through it pretty fast. I am also able to mix the Wombaroo in easier, for my pregnate girls. All my gliders LOVE this diet, and Bandit has been doing extreamly well on it. I am very happy with how everything is going so far! [/]

Randy, I got 17.5 Tbsp from an 8oz bottle. The extra 1.5 tbsp may be because I poored it right after shaking it up and it was a bit frothy.

Gotta come to Randy's defense on this one. I took a can of the Ensure Hi-Cal shook it really well and poured it into a good quality measuring cup. Exactly 8 oz. Measured it out one Tbs. at a time and got slightly over 16 Tbs. Probably the slight amount of excess was from not overflowing the spoon each time. Close enough to convince me that an 8 oz. can of Ensure is 8 oz. or 16 Tbs. whether you shake it or not.

So far we have looked at Ensure and the Equate version. Has anyone looked at the Boost supplement? I haven't tried this diet as of yet. But am looking to make the best possible decision on the diet that I choose. Please tell me if anyone has looked at the Boost. Someone said at the store that they were the same, Boost, Ensure (Walmart version) Equate. I am not so certain since I haven't used the Boost for anything more than myself. Thanks.

If you look at the back of the cans, the Ensure and Equate brands have the same (or really close to the same) nutritional values. The Boost has some values that are quite different from the Ensure...I don't know if they mean a lot or not, but to answer your question, Boost is different from Ensure.

Randy :
ok I did buy a 8 oz bottle of ensure and tried a few tests on measurments
I used a medical syringe 15 milliliters per tablespoon
test 1 : no shaking I got 15 tablespoons and 10 milliliters so 2 teaspoons out of one 8 oz bottle
test 2 : well shaken measured out 2 or 3 tablespoons then shaken again (pretending there was calcium powder that settled and I had to shake again to make sure it was mixed )doing this I got 20 tablespoons and 2 teaspoons from an 8 oz bottle
test 3 : just for the fun of it new bottle I added calcium powder and repeated test 1 and 2 with the calcium test results there were not more than a teaspoon diffrent
so I do agree with you randy 29 1/2 tablespoons is just not possible unless the mix was put in a blender and whipped

I have not yet tried the ensure diet I am concerned about them getting all the nutrients from a can of course there are fresh veggies and bugs but ...
I am very interested in this diet and can't wait to hear from ppl who are trying it specially because my picky gliders won't eat bml they are on a fresh organic diet no they won't eat veggies unless they are organic lol I don't know how they can tell but ... anyways
also I asked before about mixing in yogurt not to replace the calcium but more to thicken it up and make it taste a little better my gliders won't eat generic yogurt either yoplait only would that be ok does it matter if they get the yogurt in the ensure instead of a licky treat ?

Frog... THATS IT!! I have been putting it in the blender, only because the repcal settles to the bottom of the bottle so what good would that do. The last bottle I put in the blender and let it go for several minutes. Not that it did anygood, after it is frozen and thaws you can still see it on the bottom. I dont think that the repcal is going to be that beneficial with this diet, maybe I will stick with the calcium citrate pills.
I didnt mean to get everyone off track of the diet because I was getting different amounts from one bottle than everyone else. I guess I just wont shake so much and definetly wont blend anymore. Dont worry I am still going to do the ice tray and measuring cup trick.

lol aren't we touchy I wasn't trying to offend anyone you can read back through the post I am not the only who measured ensure to try and help figure out how 8 oz of liquid that equals 240 milliliters could possibly turn into more it's just simple math and measurements there are 15 milliliters per tablespoon 240 divided into 15 is 16 give or take a little per bottle it seems to be ok when you tell randy his measurments are wrong but you don't like to have other people voice thier opinions ya maby I am wrong your not shaking the bottle I sure would love to figure out how you get so much from an 8 oz bottle so we could all get more.....
like I said I was not trying to offend anyone I was just posting my findings and opinion just like everyone else who has measured out the ensure since the thread started

I had the same problem when I tried using Rep-Cal with it...I strayed from the diet a bit and added some baby cereal to make it thicker and keep the calcium in suspension better...but when I bought the Jurassical as suggested, it wasn't a problem anymore...didn't sink to the bottom.

When I called the Ensure number some weeks ago, the guy I spoke with said that freezing Enusre for two weeks would not harm the vitamin and mineral content. He did not mention it possibly changing the consistency, and in fact, I have not noticed any difference (and I always drink a bit before pouring out the glider dinners, just to make sure it's OK.)

Randy--I don't think I ever said I was trying to match the calcium:phosphorus ratio in bml. (In fact, I never knew what that ratio was exactly.) I merely arbitrarily brought it up to a bit over 2:1 to account for bugs, fruits & veggies.

BTW, the Pediasure has a much lower sodium content, and lower phosphorus, if anyone is interested in doing the calculations on that.

Frog:
I have to ask...who took you offensively??? I am being 100% for real here...I really DID use the blender and I really DO think that is what could have made the big difference. I dont consider myself being touchy and I am sincerely sorry if that is how you took my post. I was actually pretty happy when I saw that, cause that is exactly what I did with that last bottle. I dont recall EVER telling randy he was wrong, matter of fact I believe I was trying to figure out what I was doing wrong!! So dont be a hater!! We are all just trying to figure out a new diet plan that is coming to the surface and tons of questions are out about it and we are all trying to find out different things about it.
I am ALWAYS up for ideas and others opinions as long as they are not violent or foul or evil. You learn a whole lot listening to others ideas and opinions.
Maybe it would be best for you to ask someone in a pm if they took it personally before you loose control. Life is too short to be upset because a couple of people dont get the same amounts of a liquid in a bottle! Matter of fact, life is too short to get upset about anything!
So once again, dont be a hater, just be happy. Relax and dont automatically think the worst of someone.
I am asking for Randys input because he does do so much for us around here. THAT is why I took the pictures and posted them in the first place so he didnt think I was making it up. So now lets get this back on topic at hand and that is about the Ensure diet and the gliders... lets all work together here.

Hey..........

I'm just glad we finally got this thing figured out.......it was driving me crazy. I was just about ready to make a personal visit to Peggy and smash every one of her measuring spoons, cups and ice trays against the nearest wall............

Do be reminded that Donna has mentioned the settling problem with the Rep-Cal and recommended the Ruger or other pharmaceutical calcium powders.....

As Ann Landers would say........"Mea Culpa". I was putting words in Donna's mouth. When she said she simply substituted Ensure for the BML mix, I added some interpretation to the statement that Donna did not mean to suggest.......sorry.

The High Calcium Ensure has 400mg of cal compared to 300mg for the regular Ensure. Changes the amount of calcium you need to add by about 1/4 tea spoon.

charlie did u look at the amount of phosphorous in the high calcium ensure? cause if its lower than the regular ensure then the added calcium supplement may be reduced further right?

Maybe I didnt see the answer Im looking for after going through the lenghtly pages. I see people use different calcium powders like rugers, do these other powders have vitiman D in them to help absorb the calcium? If not, what are you guys doing to supplement it?

I have read the entire post about this subject and I'm very interested in starting Darcy's diet, but I have a few questions before I start. Have we come to the conclusion that ensure AND equate are the same thing? How much calcium has to be added to the 16 oz can/bottles(original brand, high calcium, and high protein brands) Do you guys feed it frozen, or let it thaw before serving to your gliders? does anyone have any idea how to keep track of 4 gliders and if theyre all getting their fair share? Thanks in advance!

OH YEAH , and the most important question that I forgot to ask...I have always heard not to feed canned goods...like veggies and fruits and what not...because of the residue the can, can leave on the food...how is ensure different from canned foods in this manner? Thanks.

hey jenjen,
i think the main reason canned foods are not fed is due to the preservatives in the canned foods. i have switched to darcy's just to evaluate the pro's and cons and my fella's are doing well on it. i use high calcium ensure which has a better ratio than the high protein or the other. i add half teaspoon of calcium and freez it in a ice cube tray

Ok...well today Im going to Walmart to get the generic brand called Equate. Not sure as of now if its the same exact but from what I have read so far, it seems exact. Dude, thanks for answering...but I also would like to know, do you let it thaw before serving your gliders? I will get the high calcium Equate. Thanks

mine thaws by the time they get there hands on it because i leave their food an hour before they wake up, but either way thawed or frozen shouldnt matter much.

thank you Bonzai...i feel like my mom, but Im the biggest bargain shopper ever, lol...and Equate is about 3 dollars cheaper than Ensure...unless of course I knew Ensure isnt exactly the same as Equate, then I'd stick with Ensure, but like I"ve said...everything seems fine. It's too bad Target doesnt sell equate, I hate going to Walmart. Thanks anyway!
