How do you all freeze your fruit? A couple of weeks ago instead of buying the smaller containers(not canned) of pre-chopped cantelope and honey dew I just bought whole fresh cantelope and honey dew. I could get a lot more for my money. Anyways I went ahead and chopped it all up and froze it but now I have two big chunks of frozen fruit that I have to chisel at each night to get some for my babies. Is there an easier way to do this? I was thinking about maybe freezing it in ice cube trays so I could just pop it out. My babies are on the BML. I've never tried giving them juice but maybe I could put a little bit of white grape juice in with the fruit in the trays to help hold it together or would that little bit of juice through off the ratio? I know white grape is the best for children as far as juice goes as that is what I give my son...less sugar...but I'm wondering if that would be the same for gliders? Anyways any advice would be great, thanks!

Another alternative would be to use small plastic containers.
I get small, 4 oz rubbermaid containers in packages of 8 or 10 for under $2. They have nice air tight seals and are good for putting up glider size portions of foodstuffs.
You do not have to fill them all the way and they fit nicely into the food dishes I use so I can change them out and not have to also wash a dish every night.
They have safe rounded edges and the suggies look really cute in them when they eat their food and wear them as hats.
I have one suggie who enjoys dragging them into the pouch and sleeping in them. He usually, but not always waits until the food has been consumed.
After a long period of trial and error he has decided that applesauce does not make the best bed pillow and encourages everyone to eat, eat, eat so he can have his little dish to play with.
I thought perhaps if I just gave him one of his own to keep in the pouch, he would leave the food dish alone, but it is not to be. It seems he has an insatiable appetite for food dishes and will drag as many to the pouch as I will provide.
Nonetheless, the little dishes work well as food dishes and can go from the freezer to the cage without difficulty.
Godspeed

I save the little 2.oz babyfood jars that my chicken babyfood comes in, and put in a single-serving of fruit in each, and then pop them in the freezer. Then all I have to do it pop off the lid and give the jar to my babies. Make sure your barbyfood jars have a big enough open9ing up top that your gliders won't get their heads stuck, though. :x

I cut up my fruit and put it on a cookie sheet in a single layer freeze it 6-8 hours take it out use a spatula to remove from pan and mix all the fruit together in a zip-lock baggie. One bag of fruit and one bag of veggies in the freezer. Plus a BML bag.

I put wax paper on a cookie sheet. Put a single layer of fruit pieces down and freeze. When they are frozen, which doesn't take long, I pull up the wax paper and it loosens all the fruit, then put it in a zip lock bag.

Hi dwsuggies. I ran into the fresh fruit problem in the beginning myself, buying the individual containers (which cost a fortune) and then having to toss most of the fruit out as it spoiled so quickly. Now what I'm doing is buying the whole melon, for example, slicing it up, putting the slices into a freezer bag, and using a rolling pin, flattening the fruit out into a sheet-shape. Once it's frozen, I can simply break off the amount I need to feed the fuzzies. And the flat shape makes the fruit-sheets easy to stack in the freezer. HTH!

Thanks all for your advice! They all sound so good I'm not sure what I'm going to try next time. But at least I have something to do other than have a zip loc bag full of a frozen fruit ball. I should have known better...oh well I'll know better next time!

When you freeze the fruit though, and it starts to thaw, doesn't it turn out to be a big watery mess? I tried it a couple times and just didn't like the way it came out....

It's only through "trial and failure" that one learns a better way to build a mousetrap as it were.
I encountered the same problems myself...then figured out a teaspoon can make the cutest melon balls! Lay them out on a cookie sheet in the freezer for about 30-45 minutes, and they are solid enough to transfer to a Ziploc bag.
Grapes are SO much easier: clean them, wash them & throw them into the freezer...ta da! A couple minutes in warm water to defrost & they're ready to slice & serve!

Slickables I do not get too much water in the dish and whatever is in the dish they drink up so not so bad.
Dwsuggies can you take and hit it with a rolling pin?? I have put clumps in a plastic baggie and hit them and they come apart. Just be careful as the baggie gets little tiny holes in it after a few whacks and you might have to use another bag to finish the job!!

No I haven't tried hitting it with a rolling pin yet. Good idea though! I will have to try that tomorrow when my son is awake. Or like Kate said I could just give them away for holiday gifts! It's got to be better than fruit cake right? Maybe I'll try to break it all up and then put them back in a different bag...that would make it so much easier!

I cut it all up mix it then put it in freezer bags layed flat to freeze - once frozen it breaks up nicely and serves. it defrosts so fast on its own I dont do anything besides put it in a bowl and serve it. My gang is happily munching on their din as soon as I put it in for them.

Angel, you definately need to take pictures of your glider taking the containers into his pouch and him wearing it as a hat!
