Thanks Cyndiekb, I know you are very busy and all that good stuff, but we may still need you. We will keep updates as they come in. Right now we are still in the works. Pray we can get her help.

We have picked up the sick Glider and her feet are in really bad shape one foot (left) is drawn up at her knee joint and can't be used her toe nails on her right foot look as if they are gone looks like they rotted off. Her left foot is infected really bad. I'm attaching some pics of her rear feet and maybe we can get advice or help. Please help us save this Baby. Right now vets is impossible to get due to the Holiday so we are at GC mercy in saving her.

She needs metacam, baytril and probably torb also. This poor little one...She needs a vet asap... Get her in an ecollar to keep her from doing any more damage. As hard as it is to watch them in the collar, it could very well save her life. DO NOT LET HER DO ANY MORE DAMAGE at all costs.

The lady gave us her last dose of metcam her antibiotics she has already taken all of it. Teresa made a bandage wrap for her infected foot and put some silvadine <spelling on it to help the infection. She has made up one of our pet totes and has fixed up a water bottle and has a food plate in there with BML veggies and some added calcium. If we can get her thru to Tuesday we'll get her to a Local vet one of the breeders here uses for her Gliders and Joeys and get some more meds for her.
Could someone point us to a link of something to the template to make a e- collar for her?

Dancing, I have spoke with Teresa and she is making a e collar for her. She has cleaned the area and is going to wrap it up...She was sent with the last dose of metacam. I will post more when We know more. Thanks for helping with this, I am not in anyway shape or form experienced with a SMer.
Cassie will be transported to Angie next week after She sees a vet and is taken care of, Teresa will call the original vet to find out exactly what was done.

James and Teresa, there is ONE 24 hr. Emergency Care Available vet in Lebanon, I can not find one in Nashville, here is his number 615-444-1232 his name is Josh Duvall DVM and he is the vet that neutered Adam earlier this year. I hope this helps a little I am so sorry I couldn't go get her today but I was left without a car all day and not suppose to get it back till tomorrow. (It is being worked on and you know how hard it is to get anything done on Christmas Eve)

Just wanted to let everyone know.......Cassie weighs 60 grams and is slightly dehydrated. She has eaten 3 pieces of fruit and quite a bit of BML & has drank a good deal as well. She is very sweet. She hasn't bothered her foot at all so we haven't put an e-collar on yet, we are trying to avoid that if we can. She is alert and curious about her surrondings.

Please don't take this as any kind of criticism...we all have to learn as we go. This is just general information:
Any time you see swelling with discoloration-ALWAYS apply an Ecollar, and shotgun with antibiotics even if it's questionable as to whether infection is present-because with those symptoms, infection is likely. In the extremeties is especially important, because a glider WILL NOT make the SM noise with hands, feet, or tail, even if they're chewing them off at the time. The first indication is usually to see blood.
I'm so glad to see that this little one is getting the help she needs. KEEP the collar on her until the wound is healed, and also keep antibiotics going until all signs of infection are gone, AND until there isn't any opening for more to invade. The bird feeders with the troughs work well for feeding in a collar, rig hammocks to avoid a hard fall, and keep the cage as clean as possible to limit the number of bacteria that have the potential to invade the wound. Keep in mind a pouch is out while the glider is in the collar...hammock, a tunnel made from towels or fleece and embroidery hoops will work in a pinch, or an old shirt on the floor for them to curl up/keep warm in work well for a glider in a collar.
Keep us updated, and I hope she recovers quickly. I am also available on my cell all night if help is needed.
Reminder: DO NOT give Ensure to a glider if dehydration is involved, either. The body will pull the water and leave a clay-like substance. Baytril CAN cause vomiting. If she throws up, she can choke on that clay. It will also be difficult to move through the intestinal tract, and can potentially cause a blockage. Use pedialyte, juice, nectars, and offer daytime as well as at mealtimes, to keep up her hydration.

Thank you all so much for offering all of your advice. We have been working intensivly with Cassie for a few weeks now. Judy decided it was in Cassies best interest at this time to place her else where. Cassie will be staying with Teresa untill next week and then RR'ed to AngieH. I will be picking up Cassie along with my new adition Shakespere, Flower and baby Columbus. I have spoke to Angie whom is very experianced with HLP and gliders with disabilities so we are very confident she will get along just fine. Thanks again for getting Cassie help.

Reminder: DO NOT give Ensure to a glider if dehydration is involved, either. The body will pull the water and leave a clay-like substance.
It can not only cause constipation and blockage, but the protein and electrolyte imbalance can ALSO cause their feet to swell.
I know an e-collar is not fun, but I am concerned about this suggie making her wounds worse, especially when the pain meds wear off and she starts really hurting from the additional damage she has done.
Am keeping her in our prayers.
Godspeed
Angel

I agree that the ecollar needs to be on this glider. The more damage she does, the more chance of infection, the longer of the healing time and the more chance of death. Keep in mind that infection can enter the blood stream and cause death fairly quickly.
I spoke to Bourbon about this little one and she said best course of action for now is to put the collar on and then some triple antibiotic ointment with pain reliever and wrap the feet. UNTIL she can be seen once again by a vet. This is going to be a struggle for the glider and for those trying to put these things on her but they can save her life. Even one quick bite to one of her feet can cause more damage. This needs to be prevented. An ecollar is her best chance.
Unfortunately, I have had several extremity self mutilators I've cared for and it is not easy. It is horrible when they give you that look...the one that says "why are you doing this to me". But when that glider has returned to health, it makes it all so worth while.
My cell number is 620 215 4857. I have an injured glider so I'm up all night anyway and am in the same boat if you want to talk.

James & Teresa, You have my number and please feel free to call anytime. Like Dancing, I am caring for a glider in a e-collar right now as well as supplementing a joey, so I am up and down all night long. I have sent you the pattern for the e-collar that we use here, if you have any questions about it just let me know. I am looking forward to getting to know Baby Cassie and to help her in any way I can so that she can recover and have a papmered life. We have a wonderful support group of people who all work together to help the gliders and each other too. I want to thank Judy, its hard to let go of a glider you love but know you need to have help for it. My thoughts and prayers this Christmas Eve are with you Judy, James, Teresa and Baby Cassie. Thank you Kora and Sissy for going the extra mile to help this glider, I am glad you are a freind to me as well as the gliders. Thank you for all you do. AngieH

I want to thank everyone that helped my sweet baby Cassie today.I love her and miss her so much. She was so scared when I put her in Teresas hands .It was all I could do to let her go but I knew I had to do it for her.I also wanted to clear up any thoughts that I turned down your help the last time because I was very grateful for the offers of help.I felt at that time that it wasn't something so bad that I could not do it, and I wouldn't have to let her go .No one saw her but me,and I knew in my heart that with Gods help and the help from you all that Cassie would be ok.But the place on her ankle where the vet drew blood did not heal fast enough and she started to bite at it .Then I knew I could not do it this time .It would take someone with more experiance. So I let her go .I am so glad that she is gonna get better and go to live with Kora.So thank all of you again from the bottom of my heart and may God bless you all.Oh and to Teresa and James thank you for doing this on Christmas Eve.You will be blessed for the good you have done.I wanted to let you know also that if you had called me I would have told you what the vet had did for Cassie and since she was on Baytril Im sure there is no infection ,her feet look good now compared to before the meds.I will attach pics. of before. So bless and thank-you all. _________________

When you go to reply...It will say at the bottom "File Manager"...select the pic you want there, then click on add. If it's too big, it won't work, tho. Then hit the 'submit' button.

Good morning & Merry Christmas. Cassie is doing very well this AM. She ate about 1/2 icecube tray piece of BML last night & drank apple juice/water mixed. She doesn't have doughy skin anymore so she's hydrating nicely....I re-bandage her foot last night (I consider it night until I go to bed....more like 2AM) and it looked better. That sylvadine stuff is something else. She's been potty several times. She's such a sweet little angel, just lets me do whatever I need to without much of a fuss. She and I slept in the bathroom (it's huge)last night to quarantine her from the other babies in case of something contagious. I just couldn't leave her alone. Judy, I am going to call your doc in Fairview in the AM and see if he will release any info he has already got to my doc in Winchester to avoid repeating things and putting her through any more than necessary. I apologize if I implied anything when stating that I was going to contact him, I just don't want her to go through any more than she has to. I am used to dealing with government and proceedure, so I can be a little blount and matter of fact, I AM sorry. Cassie's care is the most important thing to us both right now. Well, I'm going to go try to take a nap before the family arrives. James or I will update later this evening.
