Tiki, the glider I gave to my friend, has a problem with him. Apparantly, he's really yellow where his scent gland on his chest is at. It's more like a gold instead of yellow. And he smells... Really bad. Which I think is from the scenting. Why is he so smelly and gold? Is he wanting another glider to be with? He's really social and is constantly with her. So I don't know if being lonely is the problem.

Also, at night, instead of playing, he goes right into her shirt and crawls around her back. It's like he's scared of coming out. And she really can't play with him because each time she tries to grab him, he runs away back in her shirt. What should she do?

Also... Should she be worried about how he poops. She describes it as if he was constipated. He poops by lifting up his tail, and lifts his back legs as high as his little legs can go, and it looks like he's trying to poop but he can't. After a while he does use the bathroom. He doesn't make any hissing or nosies while pooping. Should she be worried?

Thanks.

He might just be a little more man than some boys. I would think he wouldn't be so stinky if he were neutered. My Sampson got a really dark chest spot by 4 months. And he went marking crazy. I got him neutered in October when he was 5 months, and his chest spot is still faint and ALMOST gone.

K Barbie I asked an expert with boys and was told the gold color is normal being that Tiki is just becoming mature wink

As for the possible constipation...

Have her give him glideraid and/or watery fruits such as watermelon and see if that helps. Hold back on the veggies for a night as well.

Also being the little cutie is still young he may still be timid and wants the security that your friend provides and takes cover...he should grow out of that at some point.

Like you said she does spend enough time with him not to be lonely so that shouldn't be a problem...but hey if she wants to get him a girlfriend I'm sure he wouldn't mind...it may even help to get him to be more social grin

The chest spot/coloration sounds normal to me...neutering should reduce the smell.

Ditto that for the constipation...I will also "help" my gliders by adding a little bit of apple juice to their water bottle (one night only, then you have to empty it) or to their BML bowl...but not too much.

As for hiding in the shirt...how long has she had him? My Kirby was REALLY shy like that when I first got him, he was afraid of everything. He would not play with toys at all. He is still shy, but now he will leave my back and go play on toys and such. So it could just be his personality or him adjusting.

One thing that helped Kirby is when I got Tanooki...she is really outgoing and thinks the WORLD is her jungle gym...so she effectively taught him how to use toys. But it sounds like she is doing a nice job dedicating a lot of time to him, so my guess is that he is just still adjusting.

OK, let's try this again, my 1st reply seems to have gone byebye, lol...

Hermes is my 14 month old boy who is constantly scenting anything. He is very yellow on the bottom, but not stinky at all... Also on BML diet.

Here are 2 pics, one where you can see his chest (this was nail clipping, he had his hand out waiting for his mealie treat, lol...)

Barbie, my girls love oranges but I only give them that for their fruit once every two weeks because citrus fruits can cause diarrhea. Tell your friend to give Tiki 1/8 piece of orange for his fruit for just two nights and I know it will help the constipation. If Tiki continues to have problems with the constipation she may want to give him orange once a week as his fruit once she makes sure that it is going to work.

another thing regarding smells , the coloring has been addressed very well..

the location of the cage and the cage type also has a huge factor regarding smells..

if the wire is the silver galvanized the small factor would be greatly increased

bird cage wire the ones with the longer bars have the next highest retention of smells.

the smaller the encloser the higher risk of smell retention

also if the glider is in an area where there isn't any airflow like in a closet or a room with no ceiling fan a room where the door is closed etc..

if the room is also extremely warm

overcleaning also will cause more smells, many people over clean their cage to get rid of the smells and what they ultimitly end up doing is causing the glider to over mark it to get the smells back on.

these are just some extra things to look at..
