Last week I get a call from my sister saying that Harley had gotten bit by something around her eye and that it was swollen. When I get home from work her eye is swollen really bad. But I did not see anybite marks from an ant or mosquito. I have been flushing her eye out several times a day since it looks like conjuctavtis in a way. What worries me is the huge bulge near her eye. Its a mass and it does not hurt her when I touch it. Its really worrying and since it pretty much popped up overnite I am really worried. Any help would be great!
Billy, A vet visit is needed ASAP to get her on antibiotics. She has some type of infection that has likely caused the abscess that you are seeing as a lump under her eye. I have been through this multiple times with my older gliders and the only treatment is via a vet. The vet should be able to drain the abscess. Request that he try to get a sample to send out for a Culture & Sensitivity (C&S) to determine the type of infection and the antibiotic that will work best on clearing it up. In the meantime, while awaiting the C&S results, the vet should put Harley on Baytril or another broad-spectrum antibiotic like SMZ/TMP to begin treatment of the infection. Here are some pictures showing my gliders before & during treatment for similar infections. These infections can be very nasty and take a long time to heal unless the C&S is done to determine the specific antibiotic for treatment. If not treated properly, the infection can recur for months on end.
I never thought it would get so bad. I am praying it not a tumor.
It is highly doubtful that it is actually a tumor. As already mentioned in my other post, it is most likely an abscess caused by infection. Please let us know what the vet says.
Billy, Thanks for the update. I'll continue to pray for Harley's speedy recovery Do you know if the vet was able to get a specimen to send out for C&S? Just curious...
I hope he did, I did request it, but since it was an emergency I was not able to speak to him after the procedure. He was with another emergency patient.

You might check your receipt to see if they billed you for a C&S. They are usually rather expensive and would be an itemized item on the bill. Hopefully he did do it. If not, there's really nothing you can do about it, unfortunately. Hopefully the Baytril will be effective in clearing up the infection as it is...
