Anyone???? In middle of night last night, my 6 mo old male was in his hanging coconut just carrying on with himself...majorly buzzing, crabbing etc. I thought he was just entertaining himself, came out through out the night for kisses etc.
However, this a.m., againg thought funny so just sat & watched to make sure all was ok cause his crabbing was more like something was hurting him. When he emerged from his nut his entire rear half soaked & can't he keeps rolling up in ball cause its so puckered up...
Anyone know what it could be? Saw poo & was little lighter & wetter than usual upon exiting but nothing I would normally question without the other fits.....
NEED HELP QUICK TO GIVE HIM SOME RELIEF...THEN WILL TRY FOR vet

Thanks <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/upset.gif" alt="" />

You need to call the vet and get him in as quickly as possible...

If you have some Neosporin Pain ointment you might put a bit on the area, might help the pain for a short time.

vet is very important here. He may begin to self mutilate if the pain continues.

Here is the link for constructing an [:"red"]e-collar[/] , if you notice he is starting to bite at the area you will need to get him in an e-collar quickly. You vet should have one at the office also.

Please keep us updated, I will be sending healing thoughts for your little one.

He needs vet help now! Whatever the problem is, it's causing him a lot of pain, and he'll start self-mutilating. Get an e-collar on him if you can... see the link below for information on how to make one.

See www.gliderhealth.com for more information, but please, get him to a vet as soon as possible!

Thank you as well...I've managed to convince him to get in his pouch & it seems to have him quieted down currently. If that remains to be the case, should I spend time trying to build a collar & further traumatizing him more trying to get it on, besides the fact that I am alone, or shouldn't I be more concerned w/getting him to vet?
Also, he's never been to the DR so can anyone refer me to good one in Las Vegas. I have only one name & it was given by another Dr who did not treat exotics????

[:"blue"] At this point I would just open the telephone book and start calling. If you have someone who is willing to see your glider NOW then go with that one.

We have resources available to vets only. Let us know when you get an appointment.

We can't stress enough how urgent this is. [/]

Please hurry as it is very poosible your glider will start mutilating himself. Hope the list of vets helps. Don't know anything about them, just got them off a list on the net. Ask if they treat gliders. All said they worked on exotics, so I'm sure at least one will.
Please get your glider in quickly.

sounds like he's impacted, the why could be a few reasons, but he needs to see a vet immediately as the other posts say, donnot treat it without talking to a vet first, this can be a serious problem in some cases. best of luck, hope it works out ok

Thanks Megi for all the vet info.
FYI for you Dr Kolmstetter, was the name I had as well, but out of the Lone Mtn An Hosp, W Cheyenne....so of course that's who I called immed after "my" last msg this a.m....that's how quickly things got even worse as you all had warned me from the get-go, that if pain was bad enough he would begin to self-mutilate....& HE HAD started in the couple mins it took to get the 1st replies to me....

Anyhow...UPDATE YOUR RECORDS...RE: Kolmstetter/Lone Mtn...
they apparently no longer treat exotics &/or gliders. But they did refer me to a Dr Sullivan (loved him) at 1550 S Rainbow. Even-so he is way closer to me than any of the others...and still was TOO far, considering....

Just can't thank you enough (ALL) for so quickly coming to my aid...will update everyone as my evening progresses...

I will remember that for future reference. I just searched and got it off the net though. GC's vet database didn't have any vets for NV, so I had to do a quick search. Hope your baby is doing better.

You ALL are angels...by the way...picture that's on my opening-post page is Mambo, & the one w/bad ouchies....

Now that I've finally gotten to read all of your replies, I can finish w/ update thus far.
This morn with my 1st post I was never intending or wanting to try & self treat. Was still to early at that point to get through to anyone actually in offices & was thinking that something similar may have happened to others & you all could possibly advise, for his temp comfort, til we could get in...
Well, in a matter of mins he had already begun to mutilate so I needed someone to hold him on the way. Started out immed, on my own & quickly found him in a bloody pouch & already w/poss permanent damage to penis & surrounding area. p/u Sis to hold for remainder of drive.

Not sure still how this all will end up, but will keep updating as I know. Due to the fact that he had apparently chewed off the exterior penis cover-skin/anal opening & then caused a tear down lengthwise of the muscle that keeps penis inside or lets it out, he was unable to retract it & continued to mutilate.
Dr. Sullivan repaired penis s much as he could, put it away, then sewed a "purse-string" (he said) to mend the torn muscle, but the penis had already fallen back out & still he can't retract, by the time I got home.
So...w/Dr advice, no cone, loaded syringes of pain med, & Batril, I will be holding him 24/7 to absolutely guarantee that he won't start again. At least until penis retracts by his will.
I am hopeful all will be okay. We have a bond stronger than w/any other. Dr thinks from his behavior over that last day or two that Mambo, now pubesent & over scenting me recently, wanted to make ME his girl instead of Mom, & sexual frust caused him to have a "masterbation session that got carried away" & caused such swelling that he couldn't get back in by that point, causing so much pain that he tried to chew it off, as you all said he would.
He's quiet, comfortable, & has been eating & drinking like I've never seen, when not passed-out from meds, & tucked in bra.
Thanks again for all of your support <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frostyangel.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frostyangel.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frostyangel.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frostyangel.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" />

I was so glad to read your post and see that you had found a vet who helped. Poor little fellow, I will be sending him lots of healing thoughts. I am sure he is glad to be home and in Mom's bra. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" />

Do keep us posted on his progress.

Any testing done or reason as to why the penis would not retract? Such as a UA or possible impaction due to diet or parasitic problems by chance? Mutilating over sexual frustration....could be a possibility but without testing....the primary cause may not have been found.

Suggest an E-Collar as much as one hates the thought of it...it may prevent further damage as once the glider decides to chew...it happens so quickly one cannot prevent it befor some damage has already been done. Better to be safe than sorry.

Sending prayers that your little glider will be on the mend without further problems. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" />
