I just recently went through a self mutilation scenario and my baby did not make it. It is very painful to see your glider doing this, and ultimately, can be very traumatizing to see your glider die from this. I wish I could have done more, but I really believe I did all that I possibly could. I did the ecollar, and got medicine for the urinary tract infection, but I guess it was too late.
My Sweetie was fine one day, or so it seemed to me. She was playing peek-a-boo on my shoulders, gliding around the room........she seemed so very happy. The next day, it started. At first I wasn't too worried because it wasn't yet very bad. But, the next day, it was much, much worse. The first day her anus was red and swollen.....the next day all she had there was a hole. It was bad. I got her to the vet as soon as I could, and I thought everything was going to be fine. However, it just kept getting worse. She had now stretched the hole out, and you could easily see inside her anus. I got the ecollar on her the night before died. The night I put the collar on her, she actually seemed to be doing much better. She was climbing, eating well, drinking......I thought she was going to be ok. The next morning when I woke up, she wasnt moving. I walked to her cage and there she was, lying motionless, eyes closed. She was breathing, and had a pulse. I got her out of the cage and took the collar off. I just looked at her. She was stuggling to breathe. Each time she took a breath, she had to open her mouth. Her pulse was faint. She was fighting........she was fighting the battle of inevitability. My little Sweetie was so weak, so tired. I opened her eye lids. Her eyes were just in a blank stare. There was no life in them. It was like she saw me, but from a great distance. I held her in my palms and cried. About one-half hour after I got her out of the cage, she stopped breathing, right there in my hands. Less than a minute after she stopped breathing I actually wathced her pulse in her chest get slower.....thump.... thump...........thump..............thump.................... And then it was over. I just held her there, criing. It was the most awful experience I have ever, EVER gone through, and it all happened so fast. One day she was great, less than just one week later she's dead.
Everyone, I'm sorry this is so terribly long. This was just some stuff I've been wanting to say. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me with this expereince of mine. This message board, I must say, has been some of the best thearpy I could've gotten from an experience such as this. Thank you all very much.
Brian

Thank you for posting Brian. I am so sorry about your loss of Sweetie. I recently lost my little Gremlin and the pain is still there as if it were just yesterday. You have my sympathy. God Bless...
