Luna was rescue from a lady that was feeding her only apples. She had a mate who mutilated but he died before I talked her into giving me Luna. I had never even seen a glider before, so I read up, started feeding her leadbetter's mix, fruits, veggies, insects.. but she had to have company too. So I found a woman who had Lilith and Leda for sale...Leda is missing a foot, and none of them had ever been handled before. Luna was also traumatized by the home she came from...

They all bit and crabbed and ran from me. It's been 6 months and they haven't bitten me, and will eat from my hand and let me pet them, but still don't like to be picked up. Lilith least of all. She was the least sociable, but I loved her anyway. Tonight I went in to feed them crickets and fond Lilith dead. So I'm sitting here bawling. She didn't show any sign of illness... she was the biggest and wasn't as active as the others, so maybe she was older than I was told.

Lilith may not have bonded with me, but I tried to give her the best I could and I loved her. I will miss her. I hope the others are ok. They seem to be. I don't think I could stand it if another one died right now.

It might not be a bad idea to take your other gliders to a vet to get a check up to make sure they are alright!!!

Thanks everyone. I am thinking I should take Leda and Luna to the vet, but I don't know if I should take Lilith's body to the vet or if I can go ahead and bury her. Leda and Luna seem to be fine.. they were playing last night and they are eating fine, but I didn't notice anything wrong with Lilith either.

Would the vet be able to tell me anything from the body? Their office is closed today. I want to get her burial over with.

You can get a neocropsy at the vet's office and that may be able to determine the cause of death. It might help make your a bit lighter. I hope that you feel better, losing one is always going to be hard.

I'm so very sorry to hear that you lost one of your babies!!! Sometimes we never know the reason why our precious pets are taken from us. You have to ask yourself if you really want to know, or if knowing will just make it harder for you. A necropsy will probably shed light on her death if you decide that you need to know. Sending hugs your way and hoping your heart heals soon!!!

Julia, hugs, you are wonderful, it's not easy taking in not one but three untame gliders. They steal our hearts so completely. Lility knew you loved her and your love was starting to work the magic that only love can. Now you still have the others that need that love! She'll be over the bridge, waiting for you!

I'm so sorry to hear about your dear Lilith. She is free of pain and living a happy live at the Rainbow Bridge while she waits for you.

I also think it would be a good idea to take your other gliders in so that you can make sure they are okay. Also, having a necropsy done on your glider will help put a closure to her death, by finding out why she died and possibly to help others in the future.

May time heal your pain. Sending lots of and in your direction.

Thanks for the hugs... I took her in for a necropsy today. The vet just called and said he found an enlarged kidney so she might have had kidney failure, but that he's checking into it some more. I hate to think of her being cut open like that, but at least it doesn't sound like anything the other girls will get.

I'm glad Luna and Leda still have each other... If I had only had two, it probably would have been harder on the remaining glider.

Sending hugs your way!! You are a great glider mom!! Sometimes things happen that we don't have answers for which makes it so hard to understand. Maybe the vet can give you answers that will help but if not just remember you did a great job and Lilith knew you loved her!!
