My gliders just had two male joeys come OOP on April 23rd. These are their first. I was wondering why they never carry the babies around with them? They also leave them in the nest box all the time.. They both check on them when I take the boys out, or if they crab. They seem healthy and well fed, but I just don't know why their parents don't seem to interact with them much.. is this normal?? Thanks.

I have noticed with my pairs that they don't take the babies out until they are like 3 or 4 weeks old. Are your little one's eyes open yet?

I wouldn't worry about it as long as they are gaining weight and look healthy. They will come out when mom and dad think they are old enough.

I have not had experience myself with joeys as of yet, but I am sure that someone who has will be along shortly to answer that question.

If I had to guess though, as long as the little ones look healthy and mom and dad seem to be tending to them, I dont think you have much to be concerned with!

My baby boys were out as of April 30. The parents do the same thing. I was told that they will wait til they are a bit older, just like the above reply. I wouldn't worry too much as long as they're doing well. Mine appear to be eating well. They're vocal when they need mom/dad, who go running to the rescue (most of the time). Good luck!

Of all the joeys that my pairs have raised, none have come out on their own before 3 weeks or so at the earliest. They will sometimes come out on moms back randomly. Some parents just leave their kids to hang out in the pouch while they eat or play. I'd say it seems to be pretty normal.

The only times I saw my gliders carry joeys on their back, was when momma decided that I had played with the babies long enough and she took them back to bed.
