My glider Gizmo was out hangin around on me when i noticed that he was going to poo. So i did what i always do and i held a little toilet paper up to his bum and let him poo on that while he ate some mealies. When i took the toilet paper away, there was a VERY small amount of pink on it. Not to be graphic, but it was kinda like when i human pushes too hard and theres a little blood. But i'm worried His poo is normal, he has been eating normal and acting normal. The other problem is that he has dirty hair.. Its what looks like a sticky mess on either side of his cheeks and small tufts of hair being pulled out all around his shoulders. It's not alot of hair being pulled out, not enough to leave any kind of a spot. But it looks like there are little long pieces of hair sticking out with sticky ness on it. I'm worried there is something wrong because he is a clean glider and has never had a problem like this. Could they be related? should i get to a vet?

If there is ever bleeding, especially from his cloaca, you should get him to a vet ASAP.

I agree, a vet visit is in order, especially with him being unusually dirty!

Was it blood? Is the stool hard, what diet is he on?

i belive that it is blood.. like i said, its kinda like when a human pushed hard and theres a little pink on the paper. It wasnt alot. And i also said that his stool was normal color and hardness.. He is on the BML diet and has been for about a month. He is eating and acting normal otherwise.. but the ungroomed face and blood scares me

I know how distraught and worried you are. You have gotten some great advice. Cloacal bleeding, poor grooming and pulling out fur are all signs of illness. This glider needs to see a vet ASAP. I wish there was something else to say that would be more comforting, but I cant think of a thing. It is possible that your suggie is ill, very ill. The sooner you can see a vet, the better your suggies chances will be. Please keep us updated and let us know what the vet says. We are keeping you in our prayers.

has anyone noticed somehing like this before? i mean, it really isnt a lot of blood. its actually a very small amount after the poo comes out. . I was wondering if someone who has a happy healthy glider can watch thier baby poo.. let me know what they see after the poo comes out and they are still pushing.. is there a little bit of white and pink secretion from the cloaca? or is there nothing? that would help me alot right now seeing as i can not get to a vet till the am

Lindsay, I can't help you. But I just wanted to offer feeble words of comfort.
I know how scared you must be. I'm sorry I can't help. Hang in there with him ...

Lindsay, Is he straining? Is it possible he could be constipated or have a blockage? Hang in there!

Lindsay, I wish I could say something that would ease your worry, but I don't think blood in the stool is ever a good thing. Now it may not be a horrible thing, but especially in combination with the ungroomed appearance, it needs to be checked out. It sounds like you have him on a good diet, and he's generally a healthy glider, so there's no reason to think a vet wouldn't be able to diagnose the problem and treat it successfully. Have you fed him anything that may have looked like blood on the way out, but was just a bright colored food? Blueberries, raspberries or strawberries would be the first things that come to mind which might do it, but there could be others. I'm sorry you're so worried. I know that feeling, and I've been there looking for someone on the board who had the same symptoms as my glider and wasn't sick. Even though it's scary, it's better to face the reality that he needs to be checked out than to try to find a way to convince yourself that he's fine. It may very well be nothing serious, but it's not worth taking the chance. I'm glad you're planning to take him to the vet first thing in the morning. Do you have a glider vet you already use?

Sometimes my guys stool is a little bright in places, or even throughout if they've been eating carrots, sweet potatoes, strawberries, cherries, raspberries, ect. Hope for the best. It could be nothing. It's much better to go to the vet and have it be nothing than not go and have it be something. Peace of mind is priceless.

He seems to be acting fine but still has the dirty spots. I havent gotten to see him poo yet so i'm not sure.. i do want to clarify that the blood was not in the stool but came out a little bit afterwards and it wasnt very bright, it was just a light pink and clear. I know i have to get him to the vet and i have an appt. today. I got the earliest one i could.

i just watched him go and there was no pink afterwards this time. Maybe he was just pushing a little harder than usual last night. BUT the dirty spots are still there so i will be taking him to the vet. Could it be stressed induced? We did bring two new gliders home and though they havent been introduced yet, he can definately hear and probably smell them in the house. Any ideas?

It is very possibly stress-induced. I'm glad you have an appointment to bring him to the vet's. Hopefully you'll get some good definitive answers while there.
