This happened to me some time ago. I want to share it because it's a miracle, and because I think many Glider owners may give up too soon looking for missing Gliders.
I knew we were moving in a few months and I had been teaching several friends in the Phillipines about Sugar Gliders and getting them aquainted with their new pets. Over a period of several months I had to reduce my family from 14 to 5. One day as I was helping place a glider in her new home across the compound from where we lived, one freaked at somethng that caught her eye. She scrambled up my arm & flew off my shoulder before I could blink. We all lived in steel buildings raised off the ground, and she scurried under to the dark in a flash. She wouldn't come out no matter how we enticed her. The area we lived in was rife with stray cats & dogs, not to mention snakes, hawks, owls, and civets. I didn't think she had a chance after the first two nights she was missing, but I still went out every night to look for her, and on the third day put up a REWARD poster with her picture and some information, including a strong warning not to try pulling her tail. The reward was US $100/pisos 2000(= a weeks wages for many of the locals). By 5 days I had all but given up. Very early on the EIGHTH day one of the guards came to my door with a man holding a cardboard box. When he told me what he had my heart went to my throat! Words can't describe how I felt. There she was-ALIVE! He told me he had gone to do his laundry and she had jumped onto his shoulder as he came through the door. At first he was frightened (naturally) and almost knocked her off, then he remembered the posters and realized what she was. He managed to get her in the box. It was late at night and they thought I shouldn't be bothered (wrong!).The guards told him to give her some raisins and peanuts, snacks they had seen me tempt her with the day she was lost. He kept her that night and brought her the next morning. She was scared and hungry, but otherwise unscathed! I was astounded by her tenacity. I was humbled by my lack of faith. I was deeply touched by her leap of love back into a world I'm sure she thought had abandoned her. When he opened the box she blinked twice with those big eyes and lept onto my hand, up my arm and straight down the neck of my t-shirt. I gave the man his reward, gladly. When I took her back to her family, they immediatly gave her a welcome that would have melted the hardest heart, and groomed her from head to foot. She just flopped over and enjoyed every bit of it. After several weeks with me, I did finally give her to her new Dad who already had her sister. A couple of weeks later he bought a male in Manila, and before we moved, she was a Mommy. I was sad to leave her, but she has a happy life where she is. Whenever I think of her, I'm still in awe! SEVEN FULL DAYS on her own, and she survived and sought out human companionship again.
Don't ever give up too soon!

That is a totally amazing story, very well told. Thank you for sharing!!
------------------
Breathe deep. Talk slow. Walk soft. Let go. Give big. Take less. Don't count-just guess. Act fair. Think long. Laugh loud. Sing strong. Plan bold. Dream far. Feel loved. You are.
