What solution would you use to clean the cage for first-time use? Same as regular cleaning? I am looking for some suggestions...would it be advised to use something slightly stronger than that used for usual cleanings due to any extra chemicals from the factory being on it? If so, what?

[:"purple"]i think some really hot water (wear rubber gloves), vinegar, and antibacterial dish soap would do the job. that is what i would use for regular cleaning, too. many people use a weak bleach solution, but i would not feel comfortable using that. it is up to you. of course, the cage should be thoroughly rinsed afterward. but i am sure you already knew that. you are very smart! [/]

I totally agree with Charlesex. That is exactly what I would recommend doing and we personally build cages. That is what I wash ours off with when we first build them for ourselves.

Thanks for the suggestion! You stumped my smarts...verify for me, does the dishsoap (antibacterial) and vinegar get mixed in together with the water or is it a two step process of one run of vinegar and water, one run of dishsoap and water and a good rinsing?

The antibacterial dish soap and vinegar is put into the hot water together. Then rinse well.

All new cages need to be washed well as the wire usually has some sort of oil like substance on it.
