This story will hopefully help people to make the decision NOT to leave a glider alone, ever! But let me start from the beginning...
A while ago, my biology teacher had a glider dumped on to her, the previous owner was desperate to find it a new home, so my teacher agreed to take the glider. I already had gliders of my own, so my teacher decided i could probably help out. The gliders name is Louie, the previous owner thought it was a guy, but after i played with her for a night, i found she was actually a girl. Louie is kept at school during the week (i know, terrible!) and take her home on the weekends. About three weeks ago, my mom told my teacher that she would be late to pick Louie up from school. My teacher ended up having to leave earlier than she thought...she wondered if she should just bring louie home, but then decided my mom would be there. My mom ended up being a LOT later than expected, and the school was already locked. We decided that my teacher had taken louie home when she saw we were not coming. My teacher, before she left, gave Louie some extra food and checked the water, just in case..Well, my teacher came to school on tuesday (it was a 3 day weekend) and found louie laying in the middle of the cage, not moving. Louie was rushed to the vet and given some injections...she was highly dehydrated. By the way things we arranged in her cage, it seemed as if the pouch was pushed against the water bottle, which made all the water drain out. Later that day my teacher took Louie home. She was barely moving, and on wed night, i called B. She told me to give louie baby bml through a syringe, and basically said miracles CAN happen, but otherwise, louie has a .5% chance of living. I made some of the food up, and finally got ahold of my teacher, who brought louie right over. I stayed up the whole night feeding Louie. Kim wanted to see how bad she really was, so she had me flip louie on her back, and she didn't move at all...a VERY bad sign. I was told basically to spend the rest of the night with Louie, because it was her last. The problem is, many gliders will die after 24 hours of no water, and it is a VERY painful death. The water is taken from their muscles, and they dry up. The become unable to use the restroom, and well, u see that its not too comfortable. I stayed up all wed. night with Louie, trying to feed her every 20 min., but after the first two syringes, she refused to take anymore. The whole time she just layed in my hand, unmoving. I skipped school the next day, for i felt it was more important to be with Louie. Finally, around ten, she began to eat again. All day i nursed her, and took her to another vet, who gave her some sub q fluids and antibiotics. She finally began to move. She started to walk around, but was very weak, and would fall over every few steps. Each day she seems to be getting better, but she won't be out of danger for about a month. Please, this is a warning to everyone. My glider is a VERY special case, most gliders will die. Even then, i had to go for more than 48 hrs with no sleep, and skipped school. Most people would not have the time to nurse a glider back to health. Never, for the sake of ur glider and if u truly love it, never ever leave a glider alone!

So glad to hear Louie is still doing well. I was on chat that night with you and it was definitely not a positive outlook from all that you were relating to us.
Hope I was able to help in some small way.
