Hi, I used to use the red light, but switched to the blue light about 6 months ago. I love it, the blue is more calming to the eyes. It won't hurt the gliders at all, I thing they like it better also. Angie

We've used both red and blue 25 watt bulbs. It doesn't seem to make a difference to the gliders. As long as its not white, it seems to be okay with them. We have a red one in now, and the next one will be blue (out here in the middle of nowhere, red's not always available), and we've had blue before and they did fine.

It hurt my eyes too, and one night I woke up startled, got confussed and thought the house was onfire, lol. That red glow, I can laugh now but I know I scared my hubby to death that night. (We leave the light on for them all night) I will stick with the blue from now on. Angie

Hey! I saw this on the list of things to get but am wondering why you have to have a red light bulb. Is that for when the suggies are awake in the night for the room they will be in? Has blue been okay? Just curious, I had never found a direct answer for what it is for.

[:"magenta"] red and blue bulbs are cause gliders are nocturnal. they are active at night, sleep in the day. if you use a white light, they may go straight to sleep, even if it is playtime! but they cannot see blue or red, so they would not notice. hope this helps. Blue lights are actually best in my opinion. Blue light is actually intended to mimic moon light...
