If you have joeys, please be careful with your wodent wheel. My joeys got stuck between the wheel and the cage. He is alive, he just had a bloody mouth and a scraped chin, but he's healing just fine. Just wanted to warn everyone that wodent wheels dont mix with joeys under the age of 8weeks OOP (maybe 10 or 12). My joey is 6 weeks OOP so hes at the age where hes exploring the cage.

[This message has been edited by Cindy (edited 04-22-2001).]

Thanks so much for the warning. Glad to hear that the he only got a little scraped up and will be all right.
Before I reposition my wheel I have one question. Did he get caught behind the wheel or underneath it?
Marvin

I have a Wodent Wheel caution, too. My 8 wk. OOP joey was exploring and stuck his head in through one of the holes to sniff. The glider inside the wheel decided to jump start the wheel and about took his head off. he was dazed for a moment, sneezed a couple of times, then continued playing normally, but it was danger that hadn't occurred to me.

Ouch!! Sorry to hear that yours got hurt too. Those lil joeys are very curious.
Actually, My wheel is very close to one side of the cage because its right above a platform where they can jump into it but i thought I had it close enough where he wouldnt fit inbetween, course that was when I only had adults, but it was about the size of the space the back is from the cage side so be careful of that too..
Actually if there are two gliders in a cage then the wodent wheel sounds unsafe cause one glider's head could be in the hole when another could take off and almost take off the other on'e head or brake his neck. I'm glad I have a different wheel.

I have to say I agree...and I use a Wodent Wheel! I think for one adult glider, theres not a big problem...but If you have more than one, or joeys, It would probably be best that you had a different kind of wheel. []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif[/]

Thanks for the warning. I have 2 sugar gliders and I also have 4 rats. I was looking to buy wodent wheels for them, but now am unsure. Is there a safe wheel for multiple animal cages?

The wodent wheel itself it NOT unsafe!! I highly approve of this wheel, but if you mount it to your cage like I did make sure there are nose small spaces that a baby can wedge himself into. If you use it on the stand it comes with, it should be perfectly safe

For Cerese we use the Bucket Of Fun Wheel. It seems very safe. We had other wheels for Cerese, but she seems to prefer this one to all others. Has anyone had any problems with this wheel...here is a link...
http://home.earthlink.net/~shidacresteds/wheelpage/
Kathy and Cerese

Just wanted to add this to smdgleason's post above, as he/she has IMHO pointed out the BEST glider wheel made that I have seen thus far! I believe he/she is referring to the Pro Tec Inside Out Flex Wheel and here is the link:
http://www.habaexotic.com/pro/Pro-Tech_Inside_Out_Flex_Wheel.htm
No, I don't work for the company, but honestly felt this was the epitome of safety in wheel design for gliders! Pricey? Perhaps, but consider the alternative!!! Check it out and see what you think! If anyone knows of others, please share with all of us! Thanks! My girls love the protec flex...I also have a wodent which I use in their tent...I'm thinking on replacing its stand with the kind that's on the flex, also doing away with the middle bar on the w/w and making it on the order of the flex...
[]http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/heart.gif[/] []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/images/icons/blush.gif[/]'s Sassie & Cassie

Both wheels have their advantages and disadvantages based on your personal need. Transoniq now has a warning not to use your wheels for small joeys. This also depends alot on where you mount your wheels. Just make sure whatever you use, you eliminate all possibilities of injury based on location, and check for crevices, spacing, and height.. etc. Responsibility and toy safety does play a role in injury not just the product.
