I let my babies have a few mealies in their pouch. Well, Karl just crawled out and is missing a small patch of fur on his side - wasn't that way this morning. (He's hiding behind the computer - I told him no more mealies if he doesn't come back, but he still doesn't want to come out!) Could his fur been pulled out accidently when they were noshing? What do I need to look for? (It's not to the skin, and it's not bleeding, just really, really short and patchy - about the size of 2 pencil erasers!)

sounds like it could be over grooming going on… was he alone or with other gliders?

It does sound like it may be overgrooming... knowing the dynamics of his companion status may help us figure out what's going on...
Does he have a companion?
If so, male or female? For how long?
Any new gliders in the household? other new pets?
Change in cage or accessories?

He was with the other gliders. He's been with Lennie since we got him and Jynxie has been there for almost a month. I was hoping it was just because they ate in the pouch, but it does look really short frown . How can I help him?

Since he's already with other gliders, then I would take him in for a wellness check to make sure there aren't mites or another underlying health issue.
Is there anything else that may be causing him stress? Since Jynxie's only been in with him for a month, is it possible that the dynamics of the trio is throwing him off and stressing him? Really look carefully at any/all changes that may have occurred in or around his cage in the past few weeks and try to determine if any of them may be the cause of his stress...

I agree with Suz… that is why I asked if he was a lone glider… a wellness check is always a good idea … glides can hide thing until it I to late… but if you do that .. and then can pinpoint the environmental cause … it could be simpler than you think… and those are the great fixes to find…

Thank you so much for your help. smile I took him to the vet this afternoon (and, boy, do I feel silly!) Let me tell you about paranoia - on my part, of course.

When I pulled Karl out to check on him this afternoon, he had a big white spot of skin showing, so I called my normal vet to get a referral and the newest vet in the group sees gliders! YIPPEE! Into the pouch and off we go. Now, when we get there, everyone wants to see Karl - who has been by himself for almost an hour now. I pull him out and he is acting wonderfully - sniffing, looking around and, of course, pooping.

Finally, the vet comes to see him. I cannot find the spot anymore. There are a few thin patches, but not like what I had seen. He has creases from getting 'fluffier.' She looks and looks and says it doesn't look like mites and he looks really healthy. I finally find a small spot ...where he had food stuck to him and washed it until it was wet. Once it dried, it was gone!

Then, Karl decided he had enough and ran up onto my shoulder. Before I knew it, he flew to the vet - I swear he was trying to give her a face hug! She screamed and jumped and the tech scooped him off and he ran back onto me and peed everywhere. Do you think he was trying to pee on the vet? Karl is normally very placid - he doesn't like to glide, so I was shocked when he flew to her.

Diagnosis? Nothing wrong except wet fur from grooming and an overactive, worried imagination on his mommy's part. (I really thought he was missing fur, but it's all back now, so ...) She didn't even charge me (although she said she might have if he had peed on her!) roflmao

Thank you again for the replies and help! I feel much better for seeing the vet, even if it wasn't needed!

Oh yeah, forgot to say - it's better safe than sorry! I'm really glad I took him to the vet and I hope I didn't implie otherwise! smile
