Last night, I took in yet another pair of rescue gliders. Seems they have a way of finding me. This latest pair of gliders will be heading to the vet today because of the trauma they were involved in on MONDAY. Monday while their previous owner was at work, the owner's pet Jennet (spelling?) decided that this pair of gliders and their babies were just too tempting. The Jennet attacked the gliders through their cage, killing both babies and taking half the adult female's tail off, leaving the other half of the tail wounded. The tail is now hanging, dead weight and will have to be amputated the rest of the way by my vet asap. This is another sad case of why animals that could be predatorial should not be even allowed to be in the same room. At least their previous owner sought them safety in another environment by bringing them here, however, I wish he had taken the time to seek vet treatment for the female right away, as she definitely needed it. The pair had no name...we've decided to name the female "hope", undecided on the male's name yet. I will post again soon on hope's progress. Just wanted to remind everyone to keep their cats, dogs, etc, etc. out of the room with the gliders...because you never know what you may come home to.
So sorry to hear about their situation... []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/sad.gif[/] Can't believe the person didn't want to make sure that they were okay by taking them to the vets. It's more like he wanted to not have to worry about the problem by dropping them in your lap. I will be praying for them. Poor babies. She may be depressed about losing the joeys too... []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/images/icons/shocked.gif[/] What a thing for two poor gliders to have to go through!!!!! Some people are totally determined to endanger sugar gliders with their predatory animals. I had an experience with someone that anyone who breeds and sells gliders, especially in Arizona, should know about. A woman named Winsome purchased a glider from us about six months ago. She said that her dog had killed her previous one, that she was very careful and that it was a freak accident. We discussed the incident with her and it seemed like she was planning on separating her new glider from her dogs, seemed sad about it and so we sold her a glider. This morning she called our phone about seven times all in a time period of about five minutes while we were still asleep. I called her back this morning had a really sad story about how her dog accidently killed her glider. That would be terrible--if it wasn't the SECOND time its happened!!! (that we know of of) Now it's horrific and disgusting and my heart hurts because it was one of ours that she killed this time. I know she said the dog killed it--but she let the dog get to the glider!!! I think the worst thing about this is that within a few hours of her glider dying her main priority was FINDING ANOTHER GLIDER. Talk about having your priorities screwed up!

Gennet(guh-net)- looks like a little bobcat... more of the weasel family though... bad company for ANY pets!!
They and lemurs tend to prey on smaller animals. *FYI*
