ok, two of my gliders hate the other glider.... I have done everything known to man to socilize them and they do fine til they get loose together... now alivia has been bitten and is bleeding... not badly, but enough that she'll have to go to the vet tomorrow. plus it's near her "tee tee" (cloaca?) so I'm worried about sm'ing... why must they hate her, she is aggressive but they instigate. I am bleeding from her biting me and touched her wound without thinking... this will sound horrible but I hope I don't "catch" anything from her/... ya'll pray for me this is so hard.
why does she hate me? so far 1 out of three gliders actually like me.... I'm on the verge of tears because she's hurt, I'm hurt.... and they hate each other (they were supposed to be cage mates one day...)and most of all no matter what I do they hate me... she is shaking. I hope she is ok...

You'll need to keep a very very close eye on her tonight & get her in to the vets as soon as possible to have it looked at & to get her pain meds. If you have an emergency vet that might be the best possibility. If it's not possible, you can wrap her in a towel & put some neosporin (no pain) onto the wound. You may also want to make an e-collar & have it handy just in case. (((HUGS))) right now she is frightened and hurting & you are the closest one that she can take it out on.

is there any way to make it without the moleskin? I have gel shoe inserts, they're thick though. anyhting else I can use? she is doing ok, has slowed licking..I still want an ecollar but don't have the supplies...

If you can't get the materials tonight, you'll need to stay up with her and wrap her in a washcloth or something (like a burrito) to keep her from messing with it.
For now, you can wash it off with warm water, and apply some neosporin (NOT the kind with pain relief!)
This is the only online source for the template (I'm not at home, or I'd attach it). It's a link in sugarglidersuz's post:
The key right now is to prevent further damage by any means. Make sure the vet puts her on antibiotics, and gives you a pain med to take home (usually Torb).
Since you don't want her to get dehydrated I'd definately try to give her water or juice. If she can't lap it out of her water bottle, you might try an eyedropper or syringe & see if that works. I also don't think there will be a problem with food. It might calm her & keep her distracted, tho depending on how she is wrapped up, you may need to hold it for her or simply offer her a licky treat type of food.

we are finally home and situated...\ the vet I usually use at the vet hospital wasn't in so I had to use a different one... she was pretty good. the only bad thing was she was scared of getting bitten (who isnt') so I had to hold Alivia myself. she sent cephalexin home with me. she made me an ecollar out of xray film and cast tape... it is sooo similar to the one described here... she actually used the template from suz's site (Suz you are incredible, by the way). we" maguivered " it I guess. Alivia weighs 75 grams (13wks old) and seems to be great other than the bite. I am attaching pics ( semi graphic)
Alivia is getting use to the collar, and is very much calmer. It took 20 minutes to get the collar on! she hated it, but yogies were a good distraction...
THanks, thank you, THANK YOU to all who stayed up with me and pm'd me every other minute (thank you gliderz5!!!) I really belived she might have died from sm'ing if it weren't for your help. any time I wasn't holding her she would obsessively groom the wound.
I love you guys~!~ I will send pics in a sec ( when I figure out how!)

why does it say the files are too large? they're really poor quiality anyway... how can I edit them or get them to post.... I want you all to see the fruits of your labor...
Now, I see a lot of damage in the cloacal area. That's not a good thing. You could be several weeks in that collar-if you need more, let me know. I gave advice in your other thread, but seeing the pics, I'd recommend at LEAST 3 weeks on antibiotics, then reevaluate. Again, you're welcome to call if you need to.

Yeah, she is going to be stuck in that thing for a while =( poor baby The bite is actually about a quarter of an inch above the (cloaca)spelling? and to the left... but yes the location worries me too. It's almost as if Mya bit her there intentionally... surely not...
The plan is to call the vet today, monday, wednesday with updates and re-visit friday... do I need to change the ecollar out if it is staying and isn't irritating her? She's handling it much better now, I have heard her drink and eat and she has tried to crawl into her pouch ( so sad )
I will try to get better pics so you can see the actual bite and not just the blood around it...
I am not worried about her surviving this, she's tough. I'm just worried about the complications... she's so young, she's my little ( biting) angel
refer to the thread I gave the link to. A pouch won't work. She'll need a nestbox or large tunnel for now, or a hammock. And yes, it's the worst place on a glider for an injury. And in an out and out fight they will go for the cloaca-it's what caused my Chronos' anal gland abscesses. She won't be able to go back with the other two, I'm afraid.

well... she's got a tunnel and a hammock. I don't own a nesting box, but trust me she's very comfy... if I could get my stupid camera to work I'd send more pics...
I am about to leave for a few hours...I play drums and have a practice to go to... Alivia is going with me for sure and I will give you updates when I get back.. make sure to keep adding advice and I'll read it when I get home ( in around 2or 3 hours)
if you'd like to call me its (205)-647-5038 leave a message if no answer.make sure to repeat your number several times and slowly so I can write it down.. Thanks to all again...
yay, I'm finally going to bed! Alivia is doing great, I don't think she's drinking quite enough but other than that she's awesome.I am a blessed lady. She is so tough, she had me worried sick for a while but I think all is going to be fine =) Thanks nicole for the advice over the phone =) youre so nice I'll post tomorrow k!
Liz, Not a problem! Like I said though, you should have called me!!! I would have stayed up with you and helped you calm down a bit.
How did she do though the night last night? There is one thing I need you to understand about Alivia not liking you. She has went from my home to yours just under a month ago. My home smells different, my home has much more going on and she is now all by herself. Her whole world changed in one day. She was attached to me and my lifestyle and now she has to learn your way of life and most of all has to learn to trust you and she is only 3 months oop. I can promise you if I were her I would have, at that time, even bitten me. Remember what I told you about Bebe? It took me a long time to get her the way she is now. Just remember to be patient with her and Kiwi and with time they will come around, I promise! Do not let it get you down or discouraged. I know you were upset and scared out of your wits, I would have been myself!! I do have to give credit were credit is due, good job for taking a beating yourself to help the gliders:) I think all of us here know, or are aware, what a self defense bite is like or would be like, OUCH! You are a great glider mom, there is no doubt about that! I am very glad that I got to meet you and Alivia got to join you and your home. Please call me anytime you need advice or just want to talk!
aww nicole *hugs* THanks. I will call you in a min.! Alivia is doing great, she is drinking water and eating. She has food stuck in her ecollar, later tonight I guess I'll have to clean that out with a q tip. I am NOT looking forward to that (and if she knew about it she wouldn't be either!)I have been giving her her fav, strawberry breyers yogurt, in a spoon so she can drink it. she rarely gets that yogurt cuz it's not not sugar free or plain, but with all she's been through, she deserves it. Thanks to all again, I have learned a lot through this experience. ( I also learned a lot from Chronos' story which is posted on here... I cried and cried!)
