I just got a couple of ionic breeze air purifiers (Linen's n things had them buy one get one 1/2 off) I have allergies that bother me a lot while I'm sleeping. Is it ok to use the ionic breeze around gliders? Does anyone else here use one? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, I wasn't sure it was ok to use it. My gliders don't smell bad. I mainly wanted it for my pollen allergies and one of my gliders has allergies as well.

i talked to my vet becasue i was going to buy one of these becasue one of my gliders kept sneezing. She said that the ionic breezes arent as good as a Hepa filter for the gliders. She said because the ionic breeze pulls most of the dirt and stuff to the floor where as the Hepa cleans most of the air.

Ionic breeze, picks up dust, dirt, and mole particals out of the air, and if you spend the extra money you can get the ones the sterilizes the germs on so forth. I had a hepa in my room, and it did nothing for the air quality and or the smell. After 3 days of cleaning the filter, it was blowing the dust back out. I have it on top of my desk and there is no dust around that or the floor around it. Its as good or even better than a hepa filter if you compare them, plus in the long run its cheaper to run, its much more quiet, and you dont need to buy filters evey year. My vet loves them and has a couple in the office.

I just bought an Ionic Breeze from Sharper Image and I am waiting for it in the mail. My new apartment is kinda small, so even though the gliders may not smell that bad now, I was afraid the smell would take over a smaller area.

I can't wait to get it and I will let yall know how it works!

I have three ionics in my house (7 gliders & two cats...no matter how clean you keep the house, every little thing helps!) One is in my room right next to the cages, one in the living room, & one in the cat's room. The gliders are free to roam the house during "playtime", & Zoe's been known to scale one of my ionics (I think she fancies herself King Kong on the Empire State Building!) No problems at all with my gliders & the ionics. I think it might actually be helpful to them as well because it does keep dust mites etc out of the air.

Kat, you can find them here for 299.95 and your second one is half off.

Linens 'n Things

Or here, same deal.

The Sharper Image

Edited to say that The Sharper Image site says that the sale is only until August 31 but I don't know if that is the same for Linens 'n Things as well.

hipbchik you'll have to get a picture of her playing "kong" I'd love to see that.
Pockets: thanks for the article. I don't run them 24/7. Mine only when I'm sleeping and then on med or low setting so I don't smell the ozone. The one for the gliders I run on low only occasionally on the days the pollen count is high. Poor Mia has allergies and gets junk in her eyes when the pollen count is up. My vet checked her out and couldn't find that she was sick and since the symptoms come and go he figures she has allergies. She is doing better now.

Linen's and Things is having the buy one get one half off until Aug 14th. last time I checked.

[:"magenta"] now i am a bit confused/concerned. i just bought an air purifier (wave air brand) on ebay. does this safety concern apply to air purifiers as well, or just to ones with the ozone function?[/]

I have the Oreck version, it was a little more expensive I think than the Ionic Breeze, but I love it. It has really helped with the odor and the whole house feels fresher. I have 2, one upstairs and one downstairs.

I got an Ionic Breeze Quadra as well as the Ionic Breeze with the ultraviolet 'anti-germ' light. Both put out ozone, but the one with the light (the more expensive one) puts out a ton more, even on the low setting. It made me so nauseous that I had to send it back. Because of the effect it had on me, I was worried about my kids, because they have always seemed sensitive to scents (like candles, cleaners, etc). I asked a vet friend who suggested I not use them (or use them on low and in a spacious room), because the gliders could have an adverse reaction.
So I do not have the Quadra near their room, and instead air their room out (when the weather is nice) and keep their cages clean to avoid problems. If you are going to get one, I would suggest getting the Quadra, or the small version of the Quadra, but not the one with the light. And I would put it across the room from them, it would still clean the air in the room, but the ozone output would not be right next to them.

I have used the Ionic breeze for about $ years now. I love it. I do run mine 24/7. I have never noticed an odor. On the other hand we have a Living Air ozoinater. Even on the lowest setting it still emits an odor. So I do not use that one. So much for $600.00.
Oh well.

I'm not too sure how this would apply to gliders or not, but thought I'd throw in my two cents...

I have really bad allergies and my allergist recommends a HEPA filter over the Ionic Breeze. She said that the Ionic Breeze was known to cause headaches and that the HEPA filters were much better to use.
