Just thought I'd post this to share a little ray of hope in a time of great sadness for us all.
Last night my bedroom/glider room window was left open, just a crack, and my glider, Chii-chan, escaped. It wasn't till this morning when I went to take my dog outside that I realized what had happened. Up untill that time I had figured that she'd fallen asleep in some clothes somewhere. I started tearing my room apart looking for her, but then I saw the window. Even though it was barely open enough for me to fit my fingers out, I knew what had happened. After praying that I'd be able to find her I immediately took her cage and pouch outside and placed them below the window. I knew that my chances of finding her during the day were slim indeed, and was already making plans to cancel an evening appointment so I could spend that time looking for her. It has recently been down to freezing here, so I knew I didn't have much time. I was at a total loss, since I don't live near any trees, or anything that would really attract a glider. After searching for about 10 or 15 minutes I decided to check one place that my eyes kept coming back to. There is a 15-foot utility pole about 5 feet behind my trailer. Though this wouldn't provide a hiding place for Chii-chan she could have climbed it, and when she reached the top she could have jumped onto the top of my trailer... and then scurried over to investigate my swamp cooler. As unlikely as it seemed, I climbed the railing on my porch. It gave me enough height that my head and shoulders cleared the roof, and before I realized their significance, out of my mouth came the words, "Oh, Hi there, Sugar!" My little baby was under the edge of the cooler trying to hide from the first rays of the sun.
Anyway, she's back with me, safe and sound - after less than 20 minutes of searching.
If you would like to know more details you can email me, as I don't post replies to this board.

Oh how i envy you! My little SG escaped a few days ago, and i'm still trying to track her down and bring her home. There are so many trees around I don't even know which one to start with. You know, you really are very very VERY fortunate and blessed. And Chii-chan too!

That is wonderful that you found her, but may I ask a question? Everytime I hear a story like this I always wonder do any of these people have screens on their windows? It sounds to me that maybe everyone that owns a sugarglider should put screens on their windows to prevent this from happening again. even if you do have a screen on, they can still chew their way out! unless you have metal screen! One day I let my out to play with the window open, I was dishing there food when I realized I heard a strange sound, so I looked at the window and two of my were chewing there way out. It does help a bit, but not full proof.
