I was wondering if any cat litter can be used in the cages? The rescue I just got has cat litter in the bottom tray of the cage. I've put a call into the owner to see what kind it is. Is there any cat litter that is ok for gliders? I tried to do a search but found no matches!
Thanks

Well, I suppose it "can" be-but I wouldn't. First, even the most basic 'natural' cat litter is clay based and if eaten could really cause some problems. A lot of them also contain chemicals to control odor I wouldn't take a chance with. They do make a litter out of compressed newspaper, but don't know if it has any harmful dyes/inks/odor control agents compressed in there, too. A litter type lining would also make it hard to monitor droppings for possible health issues. We use the large size bed liner pads, they fold in perfect and are easy to both change and keep an eye on things. On the rare occasion we're out we'll use plain black and white newspaper. It's like $5.97 for 18 of Wal-Mart's Assurance Underpads. They also keep the metal pan liner from getting yucky from urine that soaks through paper, and won't stick to the pan no matter how much they go, dump, or spill, making cleaning much easier. I think I'd go with an aspen bedding before cat litter, that's what we used before we thought of the pads. Cat litter also tends to be 'dusty'. I really can't see how it would be good with gliders. Just my opinion, however.

There is no cat litter that is safe for gliders!!! Go to Petsmart and get crushed corn cob, it works great and is very affordable. All cat litter has chemicals or pine, which has very harmful vapors to gliders. Aspine bedding also has harmful vapors.........the bed liner pads is a great idea but NOT ANY CAT LITTERS.

[:"magenta"]cat litter has too much dust. i would not do the corncob stuff either. if they decide to eat the corncob, they could get aflatoxicosis. i think the pads are a good idea, aspen shavings, or plain paper towels. [/]
