Lyah has a vet appointment for tomorrow morning at 9am. I'll fill in the details in a bit...but can anyone tell what for (good practice looking at your own guys) from looking at the pics? I took them about 20 minutes ago. frown

Looks like an eye issue? Abcess? Or a tooth problem. Hope she gets better - I would be taking my guys to the vet to, if they looked like her. Let us know how it goes! I will keep you in my prayers today!

Actually, her eyes are fine (I'd just woken her up). Two other areas are of concern, though. One of which is a good indicator of your glider's health, even without any other symptoms, and shows clearest in the third pic.

Is it her the cleanliness of her coat? Or the color of her nose?

Her nose is red at the top, purple at the bottom-not even close to the normal pink. I was hoping someone would see that (good job!). It's actually improved from what it was last night. Both sides of her face are swollen this time, instead of just one side. Inside her mouth, she's bleeding when she tries to chew, and has a cottage-cheese like buildup of infection in there, with both top and bottom jaws apparently involved now-she's been off antibiotics since March 15th, after the last tooth extraction (upper right jaw) on Feb. 15th-so not even 3 weeks. She's on amoxicillin and torbuterol until her vet can see her tomorrow, to keep the infection and pain under control, started last night, and is likely to lose some more teeth-guess we'll get to see how many. We're also rinsing her mouth out with clorhexadrine wash to keep it clean...yesterday morning she did not look this way.

I just wanted to see if anyone could pinpoint the things you could see in her face, before opening her mouth-what gave the clues to the problem.

Her coat maybe looks a bit rough, possibly some overgrooming? The only other thing was I thought I MIGHT see a slightly yellowish tint to the inside of her ear in one picture, but not so much in the others.

To me, her cheeks looked a lil bit swollen right under the eyes...but I thought I was just seeing things. Guess i should learn to listen to my gut instinct a lil more often.

I wish you the very best at the vet! The poor lil thing. Tooth problems are the worst in my book. frown I hope they can fix her up and she's back to normal before ya konw it. smile *HUGZ*

That was a good idea to make a post like this.

It teaches us to be more observant with our gliders since they are so good at hiding their health problems.

I know when I get home from work today I am going to look at the color of a few cute little noses!

thanks

I noticed her nose, and unless she has a mealie in the second pic then she has some discharge around the mouth...
She also looks wet... did you give her a bath?

Oh no! Pan's nose looks like that too frown He's still not bonded to me so he won't let me look at him (plus he bites). I took him to the vet 2 weeks ago, and she said his teeth looked fine--I wasn't very happy with that vet experience, she is an exotic vet (the only one in my area), but she admitted to knowing little about gliders. I'm going to try and find another vet around here...I'll probably have to travel a little. Jen, could you let me know what you're doing for her in the meantime? frown

alix...there can be more than one cause for a discolored nose-so his teeth may be fine. Unless the vet checks them under anesthesia, seeing if any are loose/loosening from infection, or infection is visible in the gums, or an Xray, it can be hard to tell. The red indicates red blood cells rushing to the area, trying to fight infection. Since this involves her sinuses along with the upper teeth (where their roots are), that's why. Riker also had the same thing with a sinus/head infection that did NOT involve his teeth, but his didn't have the blue/purple with it, luckily. His infection was ultimately diagnosed by Xray-it didn't show up anywhere else, only the massive overgrooming he had from the headache. Infections like this won't show up on urine or fecals, and without facial swelling, you run down the list of diagnostics until you find the cause.

Blue and similar colors denote not enough oxygen-likely if she can't breathe through her nose well (and it's the purple/blue that's a lot improved since last night). This can also be caused by a respiratory infection or something going on in the lungs as well.

I'm giving her antibiotics, but I can't recommend that for most owners while waiting, unfortunately, as I can't recommend dosage for another glider when that is based on weight, and the vet has to calculate it. frown What I'm giving her are based on her weight, and mixed mg/ml accordingly.

All I can say is get into the vet. I've been thru this enough to have proper meds and dosages on hand...this time I'm lucky to have some fresh enough to give her...antibiotics have a specific time period (some no more than 30 days) in which they can be used, then must be discarded. She'll get new ones at the vet, since I'm close to the expiration on this one (but not over yet).

Thanks John. hug2 Last 8 weeks have been just unbelievable, huh? Thanks to some very sweet GC members, though, I have some CareCredit available to get things done, lol. crazy

Aphi64...I had her eating a no salt canned pea to get her attention for the pics (they're soft, and she'd not eaten much last night-picked them and some other things up on my way home from work this morning she can eat). So that's what you're seeing.

I'll post a pic here to show what the bacteria buildup in her mouth looks like. This was from Gim's mouth abscess, but hers is identical:

Jen, I am embarrassed to say I didn't see the nose! I do look at my guys noses, but didn't think of it here. But it was a good idea, now when we look at pics when people need help we can remember the little things as well as the obvious.
