This may be a dumb question, but what do you put in the bottom of a reptarium type cage as a "catch tray"? Aren't they versatile, in that they can be used on the side or bottom or however you want. If the whole thing is made of mesh what keeps the surface you've got in on from getting sugar-pooed??

Sugar-pooed...
You put something like a puppy housebreaking pad or an incontinence underbed pad under the whole rept. They're plastic so nothing sinks through to carpet or flooring. Waste goes straight through the mesh to the underpad. Just vacuum up the inside in the morning when you get the food out and change out the pads when they're dirty.
And for your versatility question...yes, they can be laid on the side or upright. For suggies it's best to have it taller rather than wide. Cage height is more important when it comes to suggies.
BTW, those aren't dumb questions.

[:"magenta"] some people do use reptariums, as they are supposedly very easy to clean. the biggest drawback is if your sgs like to chew, they may chew thru the mesh and escape. [/]

I have a reptarium for my cage and I used shower certain rings at the top strung across and I hung their toys and things from there. At the bottom I bought a plastic self and zip tied it to the cage and velcroed their food bowls onto a welcome mat that I had also zip tied to the shelf. I will try to put pictures on later when I get a chance but it turned out very nice.

[:"blue"]We seem to have a new interest in the repts, so I will try to get some pics up by the weekend. This is something I have been meaning to do, but just haven't. There are some good threads in Best of the Board on the Repts. Here is the one we all put together when we first started using the repts about 2 yrs ago. Reptarium We have learned alot since we first started but this will give you a place to start until I can get the pics up. [/]

They do make Soft-trays for them, just go to Apogee.com . I never liked them myself, for anything really, not enough visibility for me. I used to keep butterflies in them, but that was just for a day. Trying to fill a room with butterflies for your girlfriend, ah..lovelorn youth...
But anyways, you just stick them onto the PVC or whatever it is they use for the frame, then slip the mesh cover over it.

I have never actually seen a soft tray, but aren't they made of plastic? From what I understand, using those with gliders is not safe. They could chew on the plastic for one. And if water or something were to spill into the plastic there would just be standing water inside it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, because, like I said, I've never used or seen one myself.
