My gliders have just started doing something I've never seen them do before: carrying stuff with their tails. They've been toting plastic rings and pieces of ivy. They curl the tails up like cork screws, then they pick up the rings and pull them over their heads. Then they pull themselves up under a shelf in the cage so their feet hang. While hanging they take their feet and pull the ring down the rest of the way down their body to the tail. When the rings are secure in the cork screw, they run around and stash them places, then do it all over again. Has anyone their gliders do this? They always amaze me.

I saw a video of it once...I think it's actually in the gallery on the board, but I've not seen it personally. That's pretty cool though~they are really amazing!

I love it when they do this! In fact, I need to buy some new rings for my Gliders, as they've destroyed the ones the used to have. Oh oh oh ... somewhere there are pics of Mya (BMXgirls Glider) carrying a heart shaped cookie cutter. Now, how adorable is that?! lol

We have recently just witnessed Furby carrying a branch with her tail. I was finding pieces of the sticks in their nest, but this is the first time I have actually seen how they get their. I usually take them out of the nest as soon as I find them so that they don't get hurt (although my bf says they're fine because they would do this in nature).

I find it amazing the things they do by instinct....it seems humans need to be taught everything, yet the little furbutts just know what to do naturally.

So, they're nesting? I wondered about that because they take everything into their igloo. You know what they really love to carry are those plastic strips off the caps of gallon water jugs and milk jugs. They look like C's and are smooth plastic. What other kinds of safe stuff can I give them for building a nest?

Isn't it the cutest thing to witness? It used to be a game between Kira and I, we would see how many rings she could get into her tail, I would give one to her and she would try to work it into her tail (often dropping it and waiting for me to pick it up for her). I have a picture somewhere with her when she has three rings in her tail, I'll see if I can find it and scan it in.

Barrel of monkeys is one of the best toys a couple of our gliders just carry them around. We have one glider that always takes it to bed with her...

Hmmm maybe she likes her monkey better than her mate

I found the pictures! (I hope I can do this) If this works, this is a pic of Kira trying to get the third ring on her tail, you can see the yellow and blue there already.

Ok, I think that worked--so here is the pic with all three in her tail.

That is SO cute! Now I'm going to have to get some rings & monkeys for my gliders! I had heard that they will carry things with their tails, but mine have never tried it...

I've thought about milk jug rings, but decided against them. They have all these little "bumps" from where they are attached to the lid. I might be paranoid (or over-protective, or a worry wart!!), but I worry that it would irritate the gliders or that they would chew on them and injest plastic.

I'm with you ZacksMom, I thought about them irritating their tails. I tend to buy my babies toys that are safe for human babies. They love to chew on and play with the fisher price big plastic keys during tent time. They haven't tried to carry them with their tails yet, might be to heavy. The only thing I have seen mine carrying in their tails is the sticks I buy. I haven't seen them do it lately, but they sure have been chewing on them like crazy lately.......do gliders have some version on teething? Mine seem to go through chewing fazes. When we first got Furby, my boyfriend got the bright idea to put our socks in the cage so she would get used to our smells, well now, watch out at tent time because Furby goes right for the toes, and she bites them! Peanut however, for some strange reason will bite my ears, now I know my earrings have never been in the cage with her

Lilo (my youngest) swings from their baby rings by her tail. She climbs through, wraps her tail around and away she goes, usually landing on the opposite side of the cage. She has been trying to teach Stitch, but i don't think she gets it.

Gliders do not *swing by their tails* they would never have enough strength in them to hold their weight. Or was this a misprint?

Sorry, not a misprint... but she does swing by her tail. She curls the tail around a "ring" and then lets go of the branch "swinging" to the opposite side of the cage. I'm not sure about the tails not supporting the weight, but I see this every night. I will see if I can get it on video.

I've found Barrel of Monkeys in toys R Us and Walmart. They are located with the board games and are around $4. They come in Blue, Red, or Yellow barrels and I believe that all the monkeys are Red. My friend found hers in Eckerds I believe and her monkeys are rainbow colors and have a tree shaped barrel.

do the rings have to be plastic? or just flexible enough for the glider to fit through because i have some large sized hair ties (the kind that's just connected all the way around so no strings hanging out or anything), would they work???

I have heard that sugar gliders like it when you cut up strips of fleece and they use that for building nests. Nice and fluffy
