I lost Snowflake tonight due to dehydration. She leaves behind Sunshine, Sebastian, and her 5 week old joey. I plan on feeding baby BML. How often and how much should I be feeding him? Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm so sorry for your loss. At this age they should be eating out of the food bowl but to ensure he is getting enough you might want to hand feed every 4-6 hours for a week. This is what I was told when my female passed away and left a little one about the same age.

[:"green"] I am SO sorry about your mama's death... I have hand-fed a number of joeys successfully over the past year. First of all, make sure the joey is warm when you attempt to hand-feed it. If it's not warm, it won't eat. If you need to get it warm, then wrap it in a pouch, then put it on top of a heating pad set on "low" that has been wrapped in a thick layer of towels (about an inch between the joey & the pad). Make sure the joey doesn't crawl out of the pouch while it's warming... Once it's warm, you can gently hold the joey in one hand and offer the baby BML by placing a drop on the end of its mouth. If you don't already have a french catheter or a bottle to feed with, you can usually get 2 oz. bottles from PetSMart in the cat section. Do NOT squeeze any INTO its mouth - it could aspirate it. The joey should lap the formula up & continue to drink until it's full. Sometimes, it may take a short nap break, but will eat again after a 1-2 minutes. You can tell when the joey is full by looking at its tummy. The skin is still translucent at this age, so you should be able to see a small, dime-sized, white bulge in the lower left of the joey's abdomen - as long as your joey isn't fully furred on the belly yet. You should offer formula to your joey every 4-6 hours. The amount your joey eats will increase with each feeding. After a week or so, you can start to put the formula in a shallow dish and it should be able to lap it up from the bowl. Be warned - this is a very messy process at first. Have some warm wet-wipes available (such as Cottenelle bath wipes) for cleaning off the formula that the joey WILL get all over itself! If you have any more questions about it, feel free to call me toll-free at 866-399-4476 from 9am to 9pm ET. Good luck! [/]

Thank you all for the help, I really do appreciate it.
I have another question, Sebastian and Sunshine have been taking care of Everest, do you think they will stimulate him to go potty or should I just not take the risk and do it myself? He is staying in with them since they do love him very much, I am just taking him out for feedings.
