Buddy was making an upchucking sound, kind of like he had to regurjitate but nothing really came up. Does that sound like indigestion or something? He doesn't do it often, but this morning it was off and on for about 3-5 minutes, and once or twice tonight. All in all, I have only heard it about 2x today.

TIA

Your glider sounds like he may be sick. My suggestion is to have him vet checked ASAP.

I agree with Judie-that is definitely not normal. A vet check asap is in order. It may be that either nothing is in there to come up, or for some reason can't- Please keep us updated.

I am keeping a close eye on him. He doesn't seem to have had any recurrence (fingers crossed). Though, yesterday, I did notice what looked like remnants of diarrhea on his tail. He was active for a few hours last night (from what I saw as long as I was able to stay up). I am thinking that he got indigestion, but be assured, I will zip him to the vet as soon as I see something going awry.

I couldn't describe the sound right, but I think the best way is like a baby spitting up.

even if all looks fine. he needs a vet check. since gliders are good at hiding their illness. its survival in the wild and its born in them. if it were my glider id get a ck up and fecal float done. especially since he has dried diahreah on his tail.

Thanks for the input. If you don't mind, the diarrhea was wet. My last glider died, so I am very watchful of this one. I watch his activitiy level and any changes. He won't eat BML so I am not sure if there was something in his food that he ate that didn't agree. I am trying glider grub soaked in juice til Monday to see if he evens out. If his stool is still loose, I will take him in Monday. I gave them gliderade last night (too much I think - he only ate that and a pinky).

You'll have to forgive me, I turn into the nervous mom with my babies, but I don't want to overreact too. Finding a balance is difficult.

I need to mention one more thing... I don't know if his behavior is changing because the joey is (presumably) about 3 weeks before it emerges. I am not sure. I haven't seen any tail (there is only one joey), and Pippi is only about 68 to 72 gr.

I should ask another question... Buddy seems to want to spend time in the pouch, and has for about an hour now (it's 1:40 AM here). Does this sound like a health problem? I might drop in on the vet tomorrow if it does. One of my concerns is that the vets can only do so much, and while we have vets who deal with gliders, sick gliders are more of a challenge. My vet told me that there aren't many/any (I forget) breeders here so they get limited exposure to them (gliders).

TIA

The upchucking sound was just indigestion - no more recurrences. However, I had Buddy checked out and he as a Trichomoniasis infection. Unfortunately since Pippi is with joey, we can't treat them till the joey emerges - hopefully another 3 weeks.

Thanks.

Common treatment for Trichoniasis is the use of Flagyl. Because the gliders appear to be sick now...my suggestion is to go ahead and treat them with the med since they are exhibiting symptoms. Not treating the adults now...is not wise due to the health risks and cross contamination issues to other gliders you may have.

There are 15 strains of Trich. Often it affects the upper digestive tract. Thus the sort of gagging you explained as well as the wet stool. Animal will also be thin. It is usually transmitted from contaminated water but can be transmitted from their food.

My suggestion to to medicate all of your gliders with Flagyl, do a complete strip down of the cages with 10% bleach solution. Keep the cage area completly dry and clean. Use Spring Water and in water bottles only. Wash your hands well after handeling the gliders with an antiseptic soap.

From personal experience...I have used Flagyl on breeding adults for Giradia and did not loose babies. Concern should always be for the wellness of the adults first and then unborn offspring second. Parents need to be healthy first in order to produce healthy babies. If parents are sickly then one has sickly babies and runs the risk of loosing all.

I will ask the vet about it, but I feel as though I am put in a bit of a position. I want what's best for the kids, but I don't want to [censored] off the vet.

Huh... I didn't realize that would be a censored word. Anyway, I think he has prescribed this under the technical name Metronidazole. I am not sure. I know it did start with an m.

Metronidazole is the generic name for Flagyl.

Oh. Ok. The point is I know that he rx-ed something that starts with an M, but I don't remember what it is.

I mentioned the med and your experience, and he has filled it for the gliders.

Thanks all.
