It was brought to my attention on another post that now that summer is hear and traveling is going to happen a reminder to all becareful with traveling and gliders. This is my story below from last fall when Berry escaped with two joey's in pouch. Here are some things I have now been doing.

 • 1. Always glider safe check your car. If your glider escapes make sure there are no lose wires to get caught in. Or holes your glider can into your car system. Looking under the dashboard on both sides is a good place to start.

 • 2. Always have a box of bag, something you can quickly open and close to put a escaped glider in.

 • 3. Always twisty tie, or latched any opening. Make sure your cage fits securly and it there is a bottom to your cage that comes out, make sure it is in tightly.

 • 4. Always have sosme type of jucie food so they won't want to go far if they are hungry or thristy.

 • 5If the escape do not freak. If your car is Glidered proof sooner or later they will craw on you and you can grab them to put in the box or bag. (I did not know if my car was glider proof at the time so I was freaked)

 • 6. Try and travell during the day when they are asleep.

What I did to get her back is in the story below, as well as sugestions from other members.
Hello,
We were going to my aunts, a trip I have made with them times before, when one of them mangaed to get the cage open letting both Conker and Berry out. Conker jumped on my head, so I got him in my purse while driving. However we pulled over in a KFC/tocabell parking lot ot catch Berry. The person who was with me, decided to help and get out of the car, before I could stop him he had the door open and berry was out. I have all my pouches in bushes around the parking lot, and talked to all the places around. There is also a big pile of BML outside. However if any one has any ideas on how to get her back please tell me. I don't even know where she is. I'm planning on going back later tonight hoefule when things quite down and try yo find her again. I know she has to be so scared, and with 2 joeys just out of pouch I know she is vunable. However the realstic in me is telling me that she is gone and now I'm worried about Conker. Right now he is curled up with me sleeping, but he is just one of those socila glider. Over the summer we would play for hours and he was a sweet heart, but he got so happy when I got berry. There was no troble at all with the intoduction, and he shares his mealies with he, and was such a good husband, and just was becoming such a wonderful father. It was just today that Berry was sleeping in my hands and Conker was sitting there cleaning the babies as the nursed. So I gusse is if she dosen't come back how long should I give him to mourn. I know it may sound like I don't because I'm already thinking of getting Conker another freind, but I have been sitting in my car with the cage outside and conker in my purse for hours thinking of what to do, and I know Conker is just a social Glider.

Virginia Conker, PLease Berry

I'm so sorry to hear about Berry. []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/images/icons/frown.gif[/] I really do hope you find her. Poor thing. []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/images/icons/frown.gif[/] Definitely go back there tonight and look... she'll be awake and looking for food. Otherwise go back in the morning when she usually goes to bed, hopefully she will find one of her pouches and go to sleep there.
Good luck - I'll have my fingers crossed for you...
Toni

Geena ...
I am so sorry to hear this. The more stuff you have that your gliders are used to the better chance you will have to bring her home. Even leave a cage in the parking lot if you can ... with her pouches and anything that would carry the gliders scent or yours. These animals are territorial and will seek their own stuff. Especially the girls will be wanting to come home bad. I've had this happen twice, not exactly the same circumstances, but the moral of the story is with their stuff and some of their favorite food items, we've been lucky both times. I'll tell you the rest of the story after you get your baby back.
------------------
A Girl & Her Squirrels www.sugar-gliders.com
[This message has been edited by Viva La Glider (edited 12-07-2001).]

What a terrible, frightening and very sad dilemma...I had the same experience with an indian ringneck...He got out and flew around outside for three days...He used to ring his bell, and I would feed him...so, the third day, I started ringing his bell, and he flew to the banister, jumped on my finger, and I put my hand over him, and he was safe at home...I'm certain your at the place where you lost her at this moment in time, and I sure am hoping & praying everything turns out alright, and you get your little girl back with both you and her glider family and have her in your hands by the time you read this post...Wishing you the very best of luck in this endeavor...
[]http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/heart.gif[/] []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/images/icons/blush.gif[/]'s Sassie & Cassie

I went alone so I could have a big cry sestion after checking, and there she was in the first pouch I checked. After last night with out hearing her bark at 2am as she dose every nigh I was so certain she was lost to us forever. But she and the babies are back, all seem healthy. And Conker went Nuts when I put her back, I don't know if he was saying what is nast thing that was to do. Or telling her how much we love her.
Virginia, Conker and BERRY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Virginia - How are the joeys? I know she wasn't gone that long, but she probably is experiencing some stress, so give her some comfort foods. I think some pedialyte/water mixture may help with stress a bit, and a yogurt with blueberry treat may be in order. She is at a vulnerable time with her babies, and I am oh so relieved for you. It is the most awful feeling.
Lisa
------------------
A Girl & Her Squirrels www.sugar-gliders.com

I checked the posts very late last night before going to bed, then, first thing this morning when I woke up, then, again, before I went to work...And, as soon as I got home, I told Charlie I Just had to see if you got your baby back...Words cannot express how happy we are (even Charlie, my husband) and he does not even frequent the site) for you and your gliders...Miracles really DO happen!...Wishing the very best to you all...
[]http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/heart.gif[/] []http://www.sugarglider.net/ubb/images/icons/blush.gif[/]'s Sassie & Cassie

I travel alot with mine from KY to FL alot, I am very careful, but now I will be extremely careful. Again, I am glad everyone is safe.
