Hi there

I have a reptarium that I "built". I copied other geniuses on this board and built the PVC frame myself, and just bought the replacement cover. It worked GREAT! Plus, i was able to put extra bars in the cage for hanging toys and pouches etc. Well, here's my question:

Since i have more bars and stuff in the cage, taking it apart and putting it back together can get slightly confusing. What I'd like to do is figure out a system of marking the ends of each PVC piece so i can find out where they connect faster. You know? Like, if i could get different colored electric tape, and put a strip around both sides of each connection. So, does anyone have any ideas about this? Something that would obviously be safe for the gliders. They're not chewers, they dont' destroy things, but i don't want to take any chances that the one time they DO decide to chew something, it's some toxic tape adhesive. So, there's my dilema. I'd like to take it with me more often. I travel back home a lot, and as of now they use an old cage i have there, but it's a lot smaller than their reptarium, and i know they miss their big, playful home. Thanks for any help!!

Could you use a sharp knife and number then ends of each row, like #1 for all the ones on the bottom and work your way up? That way you do not have to worry about toxic paint or tape. Or, since you were able to make your own frame and bought the cover, could you just make another frame to leave in the car and just take the cover with you?

As for the traveling, if you get to the point where you can take down and put it back together with ease, I don't see why you wouldn't take it with you. Just get a small travel cage for the car and until you can get it set back up.

I have often thought of building one myself, but never seem to have the time. I would love to see a picture of your creation, I am sure it is great.

why not mark the inside of the pipes with numbers or color code the insides. Once assembled, the gliders wouldn't be able to get to the inside of the pipes and you wouldn't see the marking either.

I'd try permanent marker. Like Dancing said, either number them or you can get sharpies in lots of different colors now if you want to go that route. You can probably even mark the outside of the poles, I'm pretty sure it's safe once it's dry, and it wouldn't entice the gliders to chew like something actually stuck onto the pole might.

You know, i had started to think about that. Just numbering the insides of the pipes. Thanks so much for the advice and help now maybe we can take their big cage with us more often on our trips Hope everyone's having a great day!! I'll let everyone know how it all goes. later

How about if you use some bright-colored nail polish on the inside of the pipes? Just an idea.

Nailpolish is a pretty good idea, the only thing i'd worry about is chipping when i'm constantly taking the pieces apart and putting them back together. The nailpolish would receive some significant "trauma"! I'm thinking the different color magic markers might be the best. Or just one magic markers and use numbers. thanks guys!

Magic markers would eventually fade over time while the nail polish does not chip or fade. I would stick with the nail polish idea. Just my two cents.

[:"magenta"]i think nail polish would hold up better than marker. even permanent marker can get scratched, especially on plastic surfaces. just my thoughts. [/]
