My mom is looking for a glider or two. I'm helping her find a cage. Is it safe to use a reptarium? That would be a great way to save some money!

I don't have a reptarium but I know lots of people do use them and love them. Only real problem I can see is if you get a glider that chews. I understand the reptariums are easy to clean, light weight and well.....less expensive then other cages. I'm sure someone who uses them will come along and fill you in.

Judge not until you have walked in their shoes and lived their lives. What you see online is only part of the story.

Thanks! I hear they are good for traveling too. Do you know if they build them or buy them?

Most people buy reptariums ready-made. What I did was built the frame out of PVC pipe and bought the cover from www.herpsupplies.com.

Homemade Reptarium

I really like the repts. They're easy to clean and a nice size for the price. The suggies really seem to enjoy them. As mentioned, they're not for chewers. Sometimes it takes a little imagination to hang things in repts, too.

You can view pictures of my repts in my cage gallery by clicking on the link in my signature. You can also check out some of the other cage galleries to see pics of other members' repts. The cage gallery always gives me ideas.

I have 2 reptariums (a 100G and a 65G) and I LOVE them. The gliders love them also....one hint though, I bought plastic hardware cloth and zip tied it to the frame so that I could hang their food dishes, wheels etc. I also use puppy pads under the cage to absorb the pee, and then just vacuum out the inside.

Hope this helps and if you need any hints on hooking things up just PM me!

I have a 260G, a 175G, and 2 38Gs (my two travel/separation cages). I have two pair that have been in the 260 and 175 for about 3 years. I love them, they are so much easier to keep clean, I just vacuum when it needs it, and I use human incontenence (sp?) pads--the ones that go across a bed--under my cages. I get 120 pads for something like $23-25 at SAMS club, and change them weekly (or more often if necessary). The gliders really like them as well. I have one chewer, and he chewed a few holes in the cage when he was younger, but I just patched them with mesh and a sewing machine and as long as he has toys to chew on, he doesn't bother his cage anymore, but I still check it regularly. You definately find unique ways of attaching toys and things!

Thanks for the replies! I really appreciate it! Does anyone have any patterns for building it with pvc?
Also, can't they escape out the bottom? What about a door?
Thanks again!

[:"blue"] I also use the repts as permanent enclosures and have for about 3yrs. The bottoms are also mesh which takes care of the escaping out the bottom problem.

The door for all the repts is one full side which zips around three sides so it opens just like a door when upzipped. Makes getting to the gliders very easy [/]
