About 1-2 yrs ago we parted with one of our breeding pairs due to some circumstances we were going through. We were very picky and causious about where they went and found what we thought was a suitable home, we had the people come over multiple times over a month and talked/taught them how to be responsible glider owners and in the end they seemed like perfect owners. Well here it is... Tuesday I get a call from said "perfect owners" who now live out of our area, they are visiting family here in town and want to know if we will take them back and a joey from Aug. I went to pick them up and found out before seeing them that they were being fed only applesauce and honey and that there were 2 joeys but one froze to death one night and the other who we have named LUCKY was nursing off of mom up till December (4 months). Mom and Dad are like 1/2 to 3/4 the size when they left us. Well the story turns good now, they are going to stay with us and are eating readily and eating right now, they are very sweet and seem to remember us. I wasnt going to post this but I decided too because it is something to keep in the back of your mind when you sell or give away a glider.

Yes, what you say may be true of some owners. Everynight, I pray the homes I have let my babies go to will take good care of them and if circumstances change and they are unable they will at least educate the new owner on the diet and care like I did with them. I have had a few that came back to me a year or so later. I was able to find homes for them as they had been given very good care.
web page []images/icons/cool.gif" border="0[/]
[ 01-02-2002: Message edited by: YipYip ]

Thanks Pep, I needed to hear that. Also to give a little update... It has only been 3 days and they are looking better already. They are very sweet and gentle for the most part (the father will bite you through bars only). They are eating like pigs and I'm gonna let them for a week or so then then taper them down to a healthy level. Last night the 3 of them ate 5 tbls of bml, 3 tbls veggies and 2tbls of fruit. These guys have been starved!!

Oh my, Tazzy! I'm sure glad you at least got a happy ending! Why do people do things as they do? Sometime, it's just that I think they think they'll be able to handle it and then end up ignoring the sitution! It's too bad! I'm glad that you are a responsible person!!!! No not fat...THIN! You could see ribs and hip bones, Mom and Dad where 2x as big (filled out) when we owned them previously. As I said before they only ate applesauce and honey (nothing else) they quote un quote couldnt afford to feed them anything else for 3 months. Oh and the reason the other joey froze: They lost there heat for weeks and here in Wa it gets in the 30s at night here, dont know how cold it was in their home though.
[ 01-04-2002: Message edited by: Tazzyglider ]

Oh, I am so sorry to hear that. There are a lot of people that are very, very selfish in this world. It would of been nice if they would have called you when they figured out they were actually morons!!!Then the gliders would not have suffered. We as mommy try to act responsible and do the best for our babies, but sometimes people are just able to fool us because we assume people are kind and trustworthy. It is not your fault, if they wore a sign that said what they would do, you would not have given them to them. You are doing the right thing now, and kudos for you.

I am so glad those poor little guys are back in your care. That makes me so mad when people will not give their pets the care that they need. From the sounds of it, those people KNEW how to feed and care for the little guys but were probably just too lazy to do so! I can't believe they would let their pets have babies and then take no responsibility for them. You did the right thing! God, I hope those people don't have kids!!!!
