I have asked a mod to try to help answer your questions. I don't have any first hand knowledge about this so can't be of much help. You and little Mojo are in my prayers.

Is he breathing heavier than he was at the vet's today? If so, you need to contact your vet asap and advise him of that. The antibiotics probably have not had a chance to work real well yet, but they will soon. Be sure to keep him hydrated and warm. Please get in touch with your vet, and keep us posted how he is doing!

If he needs help breathing, the vet can put Mojo in a special little incubator that has increased oxygen. It means you can't stay with him, but it can make it easier for him to breathe. Which is better? You with him or alone (or with a mate) in an incubator? That's a decision you'd have to make.

Those seem like appropriate medications. That combination is often used to treat urinary tract infections and pneumonia.

If it is a respiratory illness and not congestive heart failure or other organ failure, there's a chance that a diuretic could be helpful. It can be hard on the kidneys, though, but you could discuss it with your vet to get his thoughts.

If your vet is not an experienced glider vet, you might want to have him/her get some other opinions. There are several vets who are willing to help other vets.

You were right to seek help for this. Clicking, headbobbing are signs of serious illness. I'm praying for you and Mojo, and hope that you and your vet are able to find a combination of medications (along with the prayres of glider lovers!) that will be successful.

Thanks everyone. MOjO isnt breathing any different than he was at the vets today. I just noticed that the post I made earlier looked so messed up, I was holding MoJo in one hand and typing with the other. I steamed up the bathroom and hung out in there for awhile with him.He does this clicky noise and his little head bobbles and evey time I hear it, it makes me cry. I keep waking him up just to make sure he is still with me. Right now I have a pouch hooked to my overalls, and its under the flap of my overalls, he's in there just resting and clicking...cuddled up with his blankie from Karin. He just ate a grape for me and I forced the meds down his throat, its such a small amount I have to give him...0.03 mls. It didnt even seem like I was giving him any. I tryed to give him some ensure, but he didnt want any he spit it out. I guess the grapes are good though, they are hydrating.I am just going nuts, trying to think of something I can do to make it better RIGHT now. You know how when we are sick we can take meds that make us feel better within a half hour, like sudaphed for instance, I wish we could give stuff like that to the suggies. I think anti biotics take like two days to start working, right. Ill keep you posted, and thanks everyone. If anyone else has any useful info or anything at all, please do.

The head boggle thing means a glider is in resp distress. Also, the feet and nose will become purple looking and not the usual pink color.

Med your glider is on is a triple sulfa which is used for bacterial infections. Example of common names are Bactrim or Septra.

If your glider is purple colored in his feet and nose....and is also exhibiting the head boggle .....my suggestion is to call your vet ASAP. The glider may need to be put in a cubical with oxygen being pumped into it. Often this is needed for a few days till the med has a chance to kick in.

Can you not contact your vet or an emergency vet in this situation?

My prayers are with you.

I have talked to Victoria by phone. She took the glider back to her vet earlier this evening. vet sub-q'ed him since the little one was very dehydrated, then put the glider on some oxygen for about fifteen minutes or so. Little guy perked up and even groomed himself...something he has not done for a couple of days. Then once removed.... he gradually started the head bobbin for air again. Glider was first Dx'ed with a resp problem and then this evening Dx is Pnu. vet unable to keep him during the night due to not having a small enough O2 chamber for resp crisis.

I last called Victoria about 20 min ago. Glider is still holding his own. Victoria is going to call an emerg clinic and ask if they can admin O2 therapy in a chamber for the night. When she first called they told her no exotic vet was on duty. But at this point...perhaps any vet who is willing to help this glider threw the night is better than none.

you cant wait in the bathroom get to an emerg. vet tonight and have them get this shot for you or at least baytril in a shot so it gets directly into his system. with gliders when they are sick they go downhill very fast. also if u can make up bml that would be best now and nothing else except for some yogurt that s all mine got and i had to force feed her with what they call a french catheter.

Victoria just called. She called the emerg clinic again and they told her to bring the glider in. Seems they have an O2 chamber that they can put the glider in for the night.

So far the nose and feet of the glider are not purple. However, they are pale pink in coloration. If kept hydrated...once on the oxygen...his nose and feet should become nice and pink as he will be able to breath without feeling like he is sufficating.

Sending prayers for a speedy recovery.

I wanted to thank everyone for helping Victoria while our wee Mojo is terribly sick.. I too am talking to her on the phone.. almost hourly, but I will admit to not knowing a thing about the serious serious medical illness side of suggies, as I've not once come across one on a personal level with my own kids the past six years. But I am on call for emotional support all night long and always.. but I HAD to thank everyone for helping with the medicines, and the counseling, and the helpful advice on what she should do treatment wise. I know that Vic and I are both forever grateful. I will continue to pray for poor Mo.. and I hope there will be many prayers going their way from the wonderful and warm hearted members of GC. ThankYou from Me though.. it's a relief to my own mind.. to know she has an entire community to help her on all bases. LuvAmes!

Just got off the phone with Vic again.. she's heading home to get some much needed rest. Mojo is staying overnight in a custom glider-rigged incubator at the vet's office so he can get some good oxygen. He definitely has a bad bad case of pnemonia, and it will take some time, and a lot of meds and later,.. if all goes well, more meds and xrays to see how he's doing. It was emotionally draining for Vic to leave Mo behind.. not knowing if he'd still be with us when she gets back there in the morning.. so I tod her she definitely needed some rest. Rest though.. cause if I know Victoria.. there won't be any sleeping tonight.. but Mojo will definitely need to stay in an incubator for a few, possibly several days.. Tomorrow Victoria will see.. if he has to stay there at the vet clinic, or if there's a cheaper way (not cheap.. but cheap-ER) to buy an oxygen tank and bring him home... I'm a little worried about her finances though.. It was a hundred dollars tonight alone for the emergency vet to come in and get him all set up in an incubator.. and that's not counting the visit earlier today with meds.. Or what it will cost in the days to come for multiple nights in an oxygen tank and more meds, and xrays.. and poor Victoria is now a laid off single mom with a young daughter and a sick suggie to care for.. She most definitely needs some extra special well wishes sent her way, if anybody can spare them. I don't know right off hand how it works, to be honest.. but I suggested that Vic at least consider filling out the Emergency vet Fund form and see if she might not be able to get at least a tiny bit of help as she tries to nurse poor Mojo back to health... Anyway.. I promised her I would come in and update you all on how Mo is doing where he is now, and what the future may hold for him.. Victoria will hopefully be here tomorrow with new news.. and if not, I will try to instead.. Pray for them both please.. Luv Ames...

Oh, Victoria, I'm so sorry to hear that! I did get your message during one of my brief stops home today, but have been out most of the day.Sounded like things were improving after the vet this am. Do have your vet do a phone consult with the Dr. Johnston that was mentioned in an earlier post. Two heads are always better than one. My prayers are with your little guy! And you know you can call ANYTIME. (Please let this little one pull thru, he's such a fighter!) That includes 3am if you need to!. Stay calm and strong for your little guy.

You've been given some great advice, and I'm happy to hear
that your vet is doing his best to accommodate your Glider.

For some cheaper Oxygen, you may want to hit up your Dentist.
They're usually thrilled to help in cases like these.
Maybe that way you could get the payments down from $100 to
maybe $50? Depending on your relationship.

Also, wrap your suggie in a towel
Cup your hands and make a "sandwich" with his head towards
your finger tips.

Do a QUICK thrust down- repeat a few times a day.
This will help loosen any phlegm in his lungs.

I know I would be beside myself if one of my babies were
this ill.

I'm sending warm thoughts to both of you.
Keeping my fingers crossed,

Dawnna

Hi everyone and thank you soo sooo so much for everything. What would the glider community do without a place like this(glider central). I woke up after a couple hours of sleep this morning at 7:15, and jumped in my car to go to the vets office. The vet asked me to come at 8:30, I was ready to go banging on their doors to let me in, before they opened. On the way to the vets office, the vet called me on my cell phone and told me that MoJo had passed away at 7:15. He was very very sick. I know that I did everything in my power that I could possibly do. Also I know that you all were right there with me. Thanks again.
